Title: can you guys help me Post by aloneuk on Nov 20th, 2007, 1:50pm Ok so 4months ago i had an mri that showed a tumor and today i was told that after another mri i didn't have one, I don't know what to think .... and now having an enlarged carotid artery has pissed me off even more. While looking on the net i found this site that says that not all tumors can be seen on an mri with out injecting die first. Well the first mri *that showed* the tumor i had the die injected and the last time i didn't, Now they say i don't have one.. The first neuro that said i had the tumor is my normal neuro and has helped me so much would he really got it so wrong ? the mri he took wasn't seen by my surgeon (surgeon did his own) Do you think its likely that the tumor didnt show up on the second mri because i didnt have the die injected or do you think the first neuro just got it wrong ? please look at this site and let me know what you think http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.mayoclinicproceedings.com/images/7505/7505cr4-fig3.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.mayoclinicproceedings.com/inside.asp%3FAID%3D1441%26UID&h=210&w=550&sz=62&hl=en&start=6&um=1&tbnid=S2RmQ87sws4gBM:&tbnh=51&tbnw=133&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dabnormality%2B%2Bpituitary%2Barea%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DN ike |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by LeLimey on Nov 20th, 2007, 1:59pm Ike its too important NOT to go back and see your original neuro. The neuro and the surgeon need to talk and see why they both have such differing opinions. Who was it you saw today? Laurence Watkins? |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by George_J on Nov 20th, 2007, 2:01pm It's way beyond me, Ike. Sorry. Wish I could be of more help. :-/ Best wishes, George |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by Melissa on Nov 20th, 2007, 2:09pm I'd definately get a 3rd one done with the dye... but that's just me. :-/ |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by aloneuk on Nov 20th, 2007, 2:12pm sorry that link made the page really big lol, Helen ill be on my way to the docs tomorrow morning and on the phone to the neuro at addenbrookes in the morning too, the surgeon i saw today was Michael Powell. How can one say there is and one say there isnt ? Do you think it might be that it cant be seen without the die ? I should just be happy theres no tumor but i just dunno what to think .............. |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by LeLimey on Nov 20th, 2007, 2:16pm Well lets face it Ike - we're talking about your brain honeybun. A flippin' tumour couldn't be seen without a soddin' electron microscope :P Obviously they need the dye or they wouldn't use it so I'd hazard a guess that EITHER it doesn't show without a dye or even that it's shrunk - that does happen. The only way to know for sure is to have another wih the dye and compare it to the first and then look at stuff between the mri today and the other two if they tally. Let us know how you get on tomorrow - I'm home all day painting so can you please set my ring tone to "answer the feckin' phone and not the feckin' paint brush this time" please?! |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by Paul98 on Nov 20th, 2007, 2:21pm WHAT HELEN SAID!!! I would think the nuro and the surgen would opt for a third MRI with dye to rule out a false pos or neg. -P. |

:o Ike did you see what he said about you needing an electron microscope? I wouldn't take that if I was you.. I'd smash his face in! I'll tell you what, when he comes over next month I'll hold your coat while you clock him right on the snout okay?! [smiley=laugh.gif] |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by Karla on Nov 20th, 2007, 2:25pm It is possible for tumors to go away on their own. When my son was 6 months old the drs found a tumor on his brain. They did 6 mri and made very sure it was there. They did one last scan right before they were sceduled to cut him open for brain surgery to remove it. They wanted to make sure that they had the exact location correct. By the grace of God it was gone!!! It left blood clots on his brain and he had seizures as a result and took medicine for that for 5 years. Then when he was 5 I had another MRI done and the blood clots had disolved and they took him off of the medicine and he has been fine since and he is 23 now. I would go back to your regular neuro and tell him of the differences in the MRI and make sure he understands that one was with contrast and the other one was without contrast. Ask him to do another one with contrast just to be sure it is gone. Dont mess with your brain! I will be praying for you. Let us know the results. |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by LeLimey on Nov 20th, 2007, 2:31pm Well duh of COURSE you have a brain Ikie-poo - its just that they normally scan that funny shaped lump on top of your neck ... That's probably why Tami got a surprise! |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by StrangeBrew on Nov 20th, 2007, 2:46pm I'd politely request that Doc #1 and Doc #2 talk to each other about their interpretations of the test results. |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by Rosybabe on Nov 20th, 2007, 2:54pm Ike, it is your brain...get a third opinion, or fourth , etc. |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by cynjeep89 on Nov 20th, 2007, 2:57pm Here is what I would do: - Call the hospital where you had the MRIs done and ask to pick up the actual copies of the MRI films and the typed report of the radiologists' findings. - Call both physicians and tell them that you want to meet with them ASAP to discuss the discrepancies between the first and second MRI. - Take the films and the reports with you when you go to see both physicians. I totally agree with Brew....someone has a lot of explaining to do. |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by aubmari on Nov 20th, 2007, 2:58pm I think if you have any doubt at all you need a third opinion! What ever it takes to put your mind at ease. It may take a while to get in but then you wont have to wonder why they had different outcomes. Ck into it! ;) Aubmari |

thats is the plan, both mri's were done at different hospitals one with dye one without, it seems weird that one can say one thing and the other another, either its there or it bloody well isnt! ill get on to them first thing tomorrow |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by Annette on Nov 20th, 2007, 5:53pm I agree with Cynjeep, that is the best thing to do first. Obtain the MRIs with the typed reports and have them reviewed by the 2 specialists. They should be looking at both at the same time to compare. They should be able to point out to you where was the tumour seen in the first scan and if not having the dye makes it difficult to see in the second scan. If unsure, take the scans to another specialist and get a third opinion. Dont rush into getting a third MRI unless you have to. MRI exposes you to a lot of radition. Having that much radiation to your brain may potentially cause problem. Any of the below is possible 1- Human error in examining the scans. 2- The dye showed things more clearly. 3- Tumour can shrink by itself. 4- Something else can look like a tumour such as bunch of coiled up blood vessels. Dye travels in the blood vessels and if you have an area where there are many vessels coiled close together, it may appear like a solid lump which can be mistaken as a tumour. I pray that you dont have a tumour and that everything will turn out fine. Hugs and vibes sent your way. :-* |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by artonio7 on Nov 20th, 2007, 6:39pm What Annette and Cyn said... (I was also wondering if any type of bloodwork would possibley indicate it's presence?) and if you don't have a tumor anymore, it wouldn't surprise me... Sheesh... I've got rug burns on my knees from praying for you so much since July. ;;D with warm regards, Tony |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by Charlie on Nov 20th, 2007, 10:22pm Pay attention to these dimwits, Ike. Just so you know, not every tumor is the end of the world. My neurologist told me that I have one on my cerebellum but not to worry as it was almost certainly there from birth. Still, get lots of opinions. Don't let the "explore" in there without some damned good reasons. Charlie |

Title: Re: can you guys help me Post by zwibbs/Scott on Nov 21st, 2007, 7:01am I agree with Brew, have the two doctors talk about what they did and if there was any difference in the procedure. Whatever it is I believe everything is going to be fine. I'll be keeping you in my prayers. |
