Title: Driving with the monster in seat beside me Post by Dave413 on Nov 18th, 2007, 8:41am I worked most of my life as a millwright mechanic but always thought I would like to drive a big rig 18 wheeler. I just retired early from the millwright job and got a part time job as a truck driver. I drive 2-3 days a week and have a schedule to keep when driving. That was fine when I was in remission, but now that the Monster has returned I'm afraid that one day on the road I'll get a "7" and I won't be able to keep my concentration and have to pull over. That would be the end of my trucking career for that company. These Monsters have a way of making us think about them even when we're not in pain. |

Driving a big-rig whilel getting a Kip 7 is a my definition of insane. You pull over, deal with the hit and then get back on the road again. In the office I get on the O2 and pound an energy drink and I'm back at my desk in 25 minutes max. With an O2 tank and a case of Red Bull in the back of the rig I imagine you could do the same. Please, for the love of God and the safety of everyone you share the road with, don't drive that rig while getting hit with the beast. Pull over! There was many times I'd get hit while driving. I just kept an O2 tank with me and hit the mask while I was rolling. Got some pretty strange looks from people at stop lights, though!! [smiley=laugh.gif] [smiley=laugh.gif] Just to make things more interesting, I'd crank up the music and start headbanging along... That'll keep 'em guessing!! [smiley=headbanger.gif] If O2 works for you, it shouldn't be too big of a problem to take a tank along with you. Better to be safe than sorry!! Best wishes on this new journey! Adam |

I'm with the others on this one mate, PULL OVER and get it sorted, don't put anyones lives at risk, an 18 wheeler is a lot of metal to stop!!!!! Title: Re: Driving with the monster in seat beside me Post by StrangeBrew on Nov 18th, 2007, 9:23pm Dave - I work for a major overnight package delivery company (19+ years), and all our longhaul routes are planned out at 45 mph. This allows for breaks and safety inspections. Does your company expect the route be run at the speed limit without any of the aforementioned breaks? If so, I'd speak to your local Department of Transporation. Any company that would expect me to be unsafe while behind the wheel would not find me as an employee for long. |

Pull over to the side of the road, do what you have to do and THEN get back on. We can't and shouldn't be driving any kind of vehicle, with a CH going on. :-/ |
