Title: McDonald's, anyone?
Post by sandie99 on Nov 17th, 2007, 5:50am
Timo has got several McDonald's gift certificates, so we've had 7 visits to the closest one in this city. 5 out of 7 times they've got something wrong with the order:

- cold french fries (when we ate at the restaurant)
- no ketchup (take away)
- wrong drink twice
- missing Happy Meal toy

What's your experiences, did they got it right each time? Timo always feels sorry that we live in Finland; he is convinced that the burgers in here are much smaller than the ones in America... ;;D

i can tell u about greece that in general public mc donalds are concerned to be a failure.so it has been said
that it is the first country that the franchise company
was forced from the circumstances to adjust the menu
according to eating habits of greeks.i dont know if thats true.but i agree with u that the burgers are small.it has been years since i ate there and i can still remember
getting up hungry.

Finns love rye, so McDonald's had to make some adjustments here as well; we have McRye (well, McRuis) on the menu. :)

Sanna, sounds like a normal McDonald's to me, that is why we keep going back. [smiley=laugh.gif]

Cold fries, wrong size drinks, Big Mac is just a Cheese Burger ect!

Don't forget, The weight of the food is before it is cooked with all the grease. That is how a Quarter Pounder becomes a 1/16 Pounder!

I am getting hungry  ::) I feel like a challenge, maybe a Egg McMuffin is in order or whatever they decide to toss in the bag in it's place.

I love that place!!! [smiley=laugh.gif]

What is it that keeps us coming back? I eat there at least once a week and say "that is my last time" and before I know it I am craving whatever they toss in the bag again and again! ::)

I do not collect the Happy Meal Toys so it is not that, it is something in the grease, I mean the food. ;;D

McDonald's is one of the biggest users of Monosodium Glutamate (http://www.truthinlabeling.org/) (euphemized as flavor enhancer).

I get enough hits without consuming that nerve poison. Therefore, I don't patronize McDonald's.

One of the main reasons McD’s is soo successful is because of their consistency. You can go to any McD’s anywhere in the country and know what to expect. This is what Ray Kroc’s vision was. [smiley=bulb2.gif]

My dads dog Moe will eat the bun and pickles off a McDonald's burger but not the patty. He will eat another dogs turd but not McDonald's meat. Good enough sign for me.............

The bottom three are the direct result of the particular person working the window handing you the order.  Consistency and accuracy isn't always achieved but a glancing check in the bag is a quick remedy.  Drinks are hard to determine other than a quick sip.
Fries are suppose to be good for only seven minutes after hitting the bin but Ray Kroc's directives aren't carved in stone with management as slow and very busy times are intermingled throughout the day.

Quote:
After several days of trying, we finally reached Gourmet Magazine, and found they would take feedback related to "MSG RISING," the piece of glutamate industry propaganda dressed up as a news release that appeared in the October issue.

An excellent point from the article's link, ASG.  PR spin and propanda designed to look like news stories are getting pressure from the FCC, which states:  "must clearly disclose to members of their audiences the nature, source and sponsorship of the material."

Comcast Cable was fined five times in Sep. 2007.

Getting worse than McDonalds.

Yeah... Luckily we checked and returned to get it. The person in question didn't even apologise, just said "Oh" and gave the toy (a purple bunny tomacotchi... ;;D).

Matt, that's interesting! Too bad we cannot trust our guinea pigs; they would LOVE to get french fries or piece of El Maco Jr burger (what Timo had today) or cheese burger (what I had). Nobody has told them that guinea pigs cannot digest dairy! [smiley=laugh.gif]

The funniest thing is that each time I'm eating junk (burgers, french fries or slice of pizza), I feel like watching my Super Size Me dvd! [smiley=laugh.gif]

Barry, if you eat at McDonald's about once a week, I know just the place you'd love to eat here in Finland: Hesburger! ;;D It's Finnish fast food chain and before those McD gift certificates I had a cheeseburger about twice a year at Hesburger. :)

Kevin,

Timo once tried to check the take away bag right there in the counter, but he got some angry glances and a rude voice said: "Everything is right there!". That's why it's great to sneak behind the corner and check in there... ;;D But from now on when we'll use the next gift certificate, we're going to check what we got before going home.

What comes to drinks, Timo always wants Fanta, so naturally he can tell streight away if he got coca-cola instead.

Timo wanted me to begin this thread so that we can share the expriences we've had about visiting McDonald's. We've got nothing against it in general; just wondering. The next time: we'll try salmon salad. ;)

Well, that's two more counts against them.  Abrupt tone and... she should have offered to sell you an apple pie to go with that while you were still at the counter.  ;)

I've had Filet-O-Fish, the fish hamburger and it's yummy and I had absolutely nothing to complain about the mozzarella sticks. Ok, I do: 3 in a bag is just teasing... [smiley=laugh.gif]

Kevin,
our McD's don't sell apple pie anymore. They do have Dallas buns, chocolate muffins, donuts, milkshakes, ice cream, fruit and cake, but no apple pie. I'm not quite sure why, though.

Paul loves that McShit and I DO NOT! I'm fussy I suppose but I just don't want pre chewed food. This summer however I found one of their salads I loved with a southwestern dressing and I really liked it so every time he had mc shit burgers I had a salad and I was quite happy.

Went back in September and they had discontinued it. Story of my flaming life! GRRRR! He better find he likes something else awful quick 'cs me and MacD's are citing irreconcilable differences this time!

Taste good, don't they? In that "Super Size Me" DVD, you'll find that they are that way in part because McDonalds adds lots of sugar to their salads. McDonalds is worse than Walmart.

My experience with McDonalds has always been fine. It began in 1955 when the burgers were 15 cents and the cheeseburgers were 20 cents. I think the fries were 20 cents too. Burgers were very small back then and Godknows WTF was in the things.

The best thing and best deal at McDonalds is the hot fudge sundae. It costs a buck and has the best chocolate flavored sauce there is anywhere. I wish I could buy the stuff. The senior coffee is good too. I only eat from the food menu when on the road.

I'm not a huge burger fan to be honest. If I have one I tend o like Burger King ones (here) as at least they have proper salad in them and huge hunks of raw onion (anyone up for a snog?!)

Paul makes really good burgers though so he is good for SOMETHING!  ;;D

That menu reminds me of the new McDonalds that opened up in 1970 nearby.  Our usual hanging out on street corners in the cold of winter offered a place to warm up.  With a 20 cent burger and 15 cent Coke we could sit inside for 37 cents for an hour before the security guard told us to move on.

Only on nights we could scrape up 37 cents each though.

Linda, dear - Hasn't anyone told you yet that it's almost all genetics? That's why Joe Blow can eat nothing but shit all his life and live to be 97, while John Doe will eat salad and mineral water and drop dead at the age of 52.

A doctor once told me that each of us can only control our serum cholesterol through diet and exercise by 15 or 20%. So, if your natural number is 400, you can only bring it down to 320 at best. Guess what? Still dangerously high. Enter the statin drugs, stage right.

I'm one of those genetic freaks. My natural number is around 390. Once I got on the Zocor, my total has been between 175 and 195.

What's MOST important is that we each enjoy what we eat and not eat too much of it (which is my problem).

not to burst your bubble  but

genetic freak indicates an abnormality, meaning not the norm.   normal people can only affect thier fat% a small amount because they are normal and not more than 200.

if you are more than 200 and have a healthy diet then that is very rare thing and im sure the doctor that told you that was speaking of normal people not the rare case of those folks who ( honestly )  eat healthy and exercise still cant drop their cholesterol levels.

do you truly believe that if you woke up every morning and walked 2 miles and ate less than 2000 calories a day that you would not drop below 200 without drugs?

it is NOT genetic
except for those with that freak abnormal gene that wont let them loose the weight even though they ( honestly ) eat responsibly.

i HATE looking at our children that are walking around with bellys and cottage cheese thighs  and people blaming it on genetics.
i am far from a healthy speciman  im 6'2" 230lb and waist size 36. my cholesterol is border line at 190.  but i also know if i excersised more and ate better i could be right in line with where i should.

its a good thing you take the meds because you will live longer , but its a bad thing to take the meds and eat irresponsibly and not expect death to knock on your door sooner than if you followed medical guidlines.

good luck

But you must have missed genetics class the day that they taught the lesson about serum cholesterol levels having a STRONG genetic component.

I've had cheese burger at Burger King and I liked it. When I lived in London for 3 years, I went to Burger King when I felt like eating burgers and that was about once a year.

I quit eating all sort of chicken nuggets after I saw a documentary about them... And I gave up soft drinks in 2004. I did try Jolt Cola after that in case it would help with the hits.

I still love pizza, though. :) Once you don't eat it too often, it's a treat. One Finnish grocery store chain makes icredibly delicious tuna pizza and another one does mozzarella pizza just right. :)

Funny, but I recall when McD came to Finland. I was 8 at the time. In my childhood going to McD was a rare treat, not daily/weekly/monthly thing. We ate there about twice a year, always to mark something important such as a A from hard test or in the first day of summer holiday.

I gave up fast food a few years ago... meaning I stopped using it as my primary food source.

McD's is a 'known-quantity', so if you see it in another city, state or country, you generally know what you're going to get.  That's the upside.  Although, I have had pretty different experiences at McD's in Japan (tiny portions, localized food) France (espresso available) Germany (Beer on tap!) and Greece (what the hell were they serving?).  In any case, I  guess it works for a lot of people, and that company is raking in billions of dollars, francs, dinar, pesos, and pooka shells.

In my humble opinion, nothing beats an In-n-Out burger.  Nothing.  Not even a slider from White Castle.

Why does anyone eat at McDonalds?  The food sucks, the service (what service?) sucks, the coffee sucks, and a big chunk of what you pay goes to buy advertising.

Find a local, family-owned restaurant instead. The food will be better, the prices reasonable, the people friendly, and the money they make stays in the community.

Skip Micky D's. Find a joint where the owner lives upstairs... or like Rosybabe:

Their french fries rule.  I love quarter pounders with cheese...I eat there about once a year....

Im sitting here starving and I think food poisoned at the same time....Im in the "induction" phase of Atkins...ABSOLUTLY NO carbs (no whole grains), of course no sugar, limited vegetables..no corn, peas, etc....

I eat about a pound of chicken at a sitting...and talking about McDonalds is killing me...although...I could eat a quarter pounder without the bread....... [smiley=huh.gif]

McDonalds does have other purposes though. Every McDonalds that I've been to, there are four retired guys sitting together not far from the counter drinking coffee, reading scrambled newspapers, and solving all the world's problems. I used to laugh at them but now they admit me and my gray hair to the group because I can remember all the old businesses that used to be on the corner. I like it.

I enjoy seeing the retired folks there too Charlie.  What I also enjoy is having them behind the counter instead of some snot nose kid.  They always get the order right, don't have an attitude and have manners.

Yes....Im definately with Paul.  It's re-assuring to have an adult behind the counter.

And, in some way, it's comforting to see the seniors chatting...a reminder of the days before technology got out of hand...when people acutally spoke to one another.  Days when "the parlor" (living room) and the kitchen were important rooms...full of laughter, reminiscing....days when people wore their "good clothes" to vist others....out of respect.

Respect?  Where did that go?  The way teen-agers
behave, and speak to older adults is difficult to believe.

I cannot be disrespectful to someone older than me...it's the way I was raised.  I believe that seniors earned, at the very least, my understanding and respect...getting older isn't for the faint of heart.

**I especially miss "hearing stories"...to me, there's nothing like someone with the gift of telling a good story...the one's that get more detailed and animated every time they're time they're re-told.  I really miss that...

Thank you, Sherri! :)

I do know one McD customer, who has no complaints: a friend of mine loves their latte and dallas bun. :)

Other places to eat: Jyväskylä has lots of Asian restaurants. One of them opened a night take away service few weeks ago. We tried their no 5; it's noodles, shrimp, chicken and vegetables and it's absolutely delicious! :)

We did wonder why Timo got gift certificates to McD; why coudn't they be gift certificates, which can be used anywhere... We'd love those much more, because this town has lots of interesting restaurants to visit... :)

9 out of 10 times when I order a McSlider without cheese I end up with something they call cheese on it.

Last time I was inside they had to re-make it 4 times to get it right.  I thought the manager was going to have anurism trying to get the cooks (?) to get it right.

This is what I am talking about! I had lunch at "Rotten Ronnie's" today and let's see how they did.

Big Mac----check

Hot fries----check

Correct drink----check

Straw for the drink----check

Napkins----check

Prompt and friendly service----A Big Check

Actually, the big "M" in our town is really not that bad, very nice staff most times and very quick to fix any mistakes in the customers favor. Not too bad for a fast food franchise.

George, they do call that particular bun the dallas bun. ;;D They're soft and delicious if you like sweet stuff.

Fu,you're right; McD isn't meant to be this huge dining experience - but still; once you'll place your order, you actually expect to get what you ordered.

Then again; when you go to the restaurant, that's what you'll expect. I've had once horrific mozzarella pizza (I only ate it because I was hungry and having a migraine because I had been waiting for it for such a long time) at one restaurant and you can be sure that I'll never set my foot inside that restaurant again!

Barry, Timo has this theory: the more often you'll go, the better service you'll get. I'm glad that your local McD is a good one! :) We must have got take away from a local Chinese quite often, because the lady at the counter already says hello when we saw her on the city centre the other day... [smiley=laugh.gif]

Hmm.... all this McD talk has made Timo want some McD salmon salad... [smiley=laugh.gif]

Ok, we got salmon salad which we shared and Timo got 4 milkshakes (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry & pear) - he finished 2 of them last night. This time everything went just fine; we did have to wait for a while, because lots of folkes were there so it took a while before our order was ready.

BTW, do you get receipts at McD? Here in Finland, not a chance. The Finnish fast food chain Hesburger gives them, but McD doesn't. Timo begun to wonder about that yesterday.
