Title: May Get Liquid O2!!
Post by Lizzie2 on Nov 13th, 2007, 4:27pm
When I went to visit Helen in England, I fell in love with her liquid O2 system.  It is one of the most portable things I've ever seen and totally one of the coolest things ever!  Plus, even though I know this can't really be true, it seemed to work better!  (Maybe it was just the magic of being in England and in Helen's presence that made it work better!  haha...)

So anyway - when I came home from England last year, I asked the neuro NP about trying liquid O2, and she said she'd look into it.  At my next appt after that, I asked her about it, and she said that I wouldn't be able to get it.  So I kept on going with my 4 E tanks - and actually since Frova and Amerge generally work well for me, I hadn't been using O2 as much.  Plus at work, the respiratory therapists will hook me up with some O2 in a hurry if I need it, and I keep a nonrebreather stored in my locker.

Fast forward to the past few days where the hits have been busting through everything and anything I throw at them, including frova and amerge, and I've been left pacing with the ice pack, wanting to smash my head through something when the hits were coming.  I had one tank still with O2 in it, but every time I hooked up my regulator to it (washer or no washer), it was bleeding out O2 and not working properly.

This is my busy week at work, but I had a short day this morning, so I decided to drive down to the O2 supplier.  First off, the guy said the washer our respiratory therapists gave me is not the right one for the tanks I have/regulator I have.  He gave me the correct washer and a spare one - fixed my tank right up, so now it works just fine.  They also gave me 3 more fresh tanks to replace my empties.

I asked the woman there about liquid O2, and she said they definitely have it.  She said that if I got a prescription for it, all they would have to do is call my insurance to authorize it.  Since I have good insurance (and pay for it!), they probably will authorize it.  I go to the neuro NP this Thursday, coincidentally!!  This made my day!!!

I know I'm a dork, but I feel like doing the happy dance just because I found out that the liquid O2 very well may be in my near future!!  Crazy, isn't it?  How happy O2 can make a person!! :)

Just wanted to share!!

PF wishes to all,
Carrie :)

Oh I totally understand. My wife gets jealous of the loving looks she catches me throwing my E-Tanks. Hope it works for you Lizzie!

Lizzie it DOES seem to work better doesn't it? I have cylinders as well as back up and I've used it in hospital enough times to fall in love with my LOX all over again each time I come home!

I think it works better because its converted from liquid to gas on demand and also because its cooler - that seems to help big time for me

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you!!

Helen x
