Title: Prayers and vibes, (update#1) Post by ski2k on Nov 10th, 2007, 1:40am I got a phonecall from my mother. My ex-wife called her and asked her to get ahold of me (she lost my new number), and wanted me to call cuz there was a problem with my son. I called her back, and she told me he came home from school with a swollen ankle. She took him to the doc, and they did an x-ray. Told her he had chunks of bone broken off his ankle, and what looked like stress cracks. They decided to check out the other ankle, and found the same. His diagnosis: Osteoporosis. Pretty odd for a kid the age of 13. So the doc started asking more questions. Long story short, they now think he may have Leukemia. She's bringing him back to the doctor on monday to start the battery of tests he's going to need. And he really HATES needles. Please say a prayer or send good vibes, whichever is your style, as he's going to need all the strength he can get. Thanks all, Adam |

I'm trying not to worry about it too much until the testing has been done, and find out for sure what it is we're up against, but it's hard. I will definitely keep you all posted as I find out more. I do understand and can relate to what you must be feeling right now as I almost lost my son when he was an infant (he is now 10). He is a special needs boy born with an infection in his brain and almost died from it but no signs or symptoms showed up until he was 3 weeks old. So going thru the "not knowing anything" and what might follow I truely understand. Just rememebr I and many others are praying for Dakota and you as well as the rest of your family. I'm trying to think positive until we know for sure. I think the more worrying he has around him, the worse things are going to be for him. Kids pick up on that sooo easily, and often react differently to it than adults, so staying positive is about the best I can do for him right now. And I'm giving it all I got! Dakota's initial blood work hasn't come back yet, so now they're putting off the cat scan, and other work til wednesday. Treatment is so much better than in the past. I have had 2 students over the years survive this. I pray for stenghth to cope with what ever comes your way; for Dakota, yourself and his mom. Title: Re: Prayers and vibes, (update#1) Post by ski2k on Nov 14th, 2007, 5:45pm This is getting frustrating!!!! First of all.... The not knowing part is hell... Now it's just more waiting!! It turns out the insurance has a huge deductable to have a cat scan done, so that's gonna have to wait. So rather than do nothing, more blood was drawn to do more tests. Dakota's in good spirits though, so I guess that's good. They've confirmed he does have Osteoporosis, and I guess the other tests they're doing are to help rule out anything else. I dunno... I'm getting kinda lost. :-/ Bone density test and MORE blood work scheduled for Friday (Gonna suck the poor kid dry!! (no comments, please, Jonny [smiley=laugh.gif] )). Anyway....
