Title: Compiz-Fusion screen shots Post by Opus on Nov 9th, 2007, 11:24pm Here are some screen shots from Ubuntu 7.10 running the Compiz-Fusion 3D desktop. Explanations are under the shots. I am using a new host. If something goes wrong let me know. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd200/pjbgravely/01.png Here is a shot of some of the useless eye candy. The 3D cube with a video playing in the corner, under a semi transparent web browser, with the rain feature going. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd200/pjbgravely/02.png Here is the negative feature, for hard to read pages or eyestrain. Annotate lets you draw on your desktop, useful for sending screenshots to users. Finally the pulled up window, the only part of wobbly windows I can show you without a movie. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd200/pjbgravely/03.png Ever lose a windows among the 30 you have open, spread on 4 desktops? Flip 3D will let you flip through them all until you find the right one. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd200/pjbgravely/04.png Scale is useful for finding windows too, just click on the one you want and it will go to the front. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd200/pjbgravely/05.png Zoom is a useful option, it will zoom in on anything, not just increase font size like Ctrl + does in a browser, and it is very quick to use at any time http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd200/pjbgravely/06.png Here is a glamor shot of the bottom. http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd200/pjbgravely/07.png And the top. In all shots the video is playing normally. If you would like a system like this I'm sorry to say your best hope right now would be to get a Dell (http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/linux_3x?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs) Even then you would have to install Compiz-Fusion because it only has Compiz on it. I wouldn't recommend it until Dell has a few years in selling Ubuntu. |

Title: Re: Compiz-Fusion screen shots Post by Ray on Nov 10th, 2007, 4:36am You are a Linux show off! LOL Nice job showing off the features. I've played with Beryl and have the 3d effects, but not taken it to that level. Ray |

I couldn't get Beryl to be practical before either. Since Compiz and Beryl have merged into Compiz-Fusion all that has changed. Now having useful features is just a few mouse clicks away. The default Ubuntu setup is pretty lame, but I guess most people don't need more than 2 desktops. Paul |

Title: Re: Compiz-Fusion screen shots Post by DennisM1045 on Nov 10th, 2007, 9:52am Hell I've got two 20" flat panels going. Unfortunately I need to use Vista. Though I cross-compile on Sun systems for PowerPC platforms. We don't use Linux except for a few test systems. I'd love to see that change. -Dennis- |

Title: Re: Compiz-Fusion screen shots Post by Ray on Nov 10th, 2007, 8:00pm I couldn't get the @#$%ed thing to compile on Fedora7, even when I loaded the @#$%ed library installed on my system. I'll try again when I'm not so @#$%ed frustrated. Peace out, Ray ;;D |

What! do you mean Fedora doesn't have something like apt-get install compiz LOL? Compiling from source is so 20th century. I hear in an effort to keep up with Ubuntu FC8 will have compiz-fusion by default. Since it is very xorg version and current driver dependent it might be better to wait, unless of course you have nothing better to do. Paul [smiley=smokin.gif] |

Title: Re: Compiz-Fusion screen shots Post by Ray on Nov 10th, 2007, 11:50pm Paul, Fedora supports "yum". I've wasted enough brain cells on this already today. Tomorrow is another day..... In the meanwhile, it looks cool. Ray |

Title: Re: Compiz-Fusion screen shots Post by Bill Gates on Nov 11th, 2007, 10:38pm Nice Jonny, That almost makes up for the fact that you use opera rather than the only true web browser, Microsoft Internet Explorer. Also the fact you replaced the pirated version of Windows XP with a stolen corporate version of Windows XP pro, rather than doing the right thing which is buying a proper licensed copy. All in all your lack of open source software installed on your computer makes me very proud. BG PS This is nothing compared to Vista, lets show these open source scum what a real Operating System looks like with some screen shots of your own. |
