I said Kentucky Mel.  it's closer to you than Calif. at least.

After driving all through that state , I have seriously considered it since last July. (no kidding)  I love it there and besides that I could be closer to Jimi and give him grief on a daily basis.  Wadda-ya think.?    ;;D

What's to vote on -- Hang the damn things... KIDS SHOULD LEARN THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE!

Kids today don't even know the meaning of the flag (and most of them don't even know how many states are in the United States). They need to be taught respect for OUR flag, the pledge, and the PROTOCOL of the flag. Some grown-ups need to brush up on the PROTOCOL.

When I was a kid, the flag raising was a "ceremony" done AFTER sunrise and another "ceremony" when it was taken down BEFORE sunset! It was taken down if it rained and it NEVER touched the ground. It was folded properly and respected the whole time this was being done. When it became too tattered and worn to fly anymore it was "burned" but not in protest, but in ceremony for the time it had flown over our homes and land and for what it meant to our nation.

Today, no one seems to care about Old Glory -- it's just something to put up outside your house and leave it there till it gets dirty and worn and then throw it in the garbage can. Kids don't know a damn thing about what it stands for (most teachers don't either).

Sorry, Linda, this is just a sore spot with me. People say they love their country and it's the greatest country on earth, yet they've never listened to the words of our National Anthem, nor have a clue what our flag stands for and don't respect either. And if parents don't respect our symbols what do we expect of our kids?

If those school board members were in my school district and voted against putting up posters with the Pledge of Allegiance throughout the school, I'd be leading a campaign to kick their little shiney asses out of that school so fast it'd make your head spin!

My daughter already knows the Pledge by memory just a few days into homeschooling. We are working on the anthem now  :).

Most people don't even know there are four verses to The Star Spangled Banner.  I particularly like the fourth:

Oh, thus be it ever when free men shall stand
Between their loved homes and the wars desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued
     land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserved us a
     nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just;
And this be our motto,: "In God is our trust!"
And the star spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

I know it is not considered politically correct anymore, but most of our leadership at the time recognized two things.  First a reliance on God, and secondly the responsibility to be just.

We have stumbled in some areas in this country in the past, but there is no other country in the world I would rather have.  I know we have members here from other countries, and I by no means am putting you down, but I am a PROUD American.  I am proud of our heritage, and am hopeful of our future.

 LMAO Barb.  You don't have to say sorry to me.  I agree with you and everyone else here. ..which is why I said I'm ashamed that this would even come up in Calif. for a vote.  

 Glad the we won on this one.  Whoever voted on this  must have put down their bongs for a milisecond and had a clear thought finally.

    Lets ALL move to Kentucky.

Jim and Ruthie have a huge yard with lots of room for Campers, RV's, busses, tents and sleeping bags.
