Title: Front Page
Post by Mark C on Nov 4th, 2007, 8:33am
I was asked by the director of the current program we are in the participate in an interview with our local newspaper about being homeless. After some thought and prayer and talking to the children about the possible negative social impact we deided to consent. Keep in mind we are siginig a lease opn a new apartment Monday......if you are interested the web article can be found here (http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2007/nov/04/hard-life-for-a-child/)  and the newspaper article here (http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/pop_up.asp?fpVname=TN_KNS&ref_pge=map&tfp_map=USA/)  I am overwhelmed by the front page status, I had no idea.

I am kinda shell shocked right now.....thank you all for being so kind to us.

After reading the children's words and your concern about your sons schoolwork Mark, I can only think of how this is all so temporary.  But you know that already now, don't you? ;)

That was real good of your family to contribute to the article to let the public know of what goes on behind the scenes in peoples lives.  How things are not what they seem and that we need to remember there are people going through tougher times that we.

Thank you! :)

I'm glad you and your family are on the upswing.

It's a hard decision to make - participating in an article like that.  I'm glad you did.

God bless you as you move forward.

(and Jessie is ADORABLE!)

Mark that took a lot of courage to do that article and I think it was well written and with a lot of compassion. Sometimes putting names and faces with difficulties people face helps others to get involved.

I am so happy for y'all with the new apartment! Definitely let us know the new address!

Wishing you all the best and more
Jen

Mark I was so very moved by your story and your bravery. You have helped to give an identity to so many nameless and faceless people. Keeping your family together at any and all costs in this very difficult time is heroic and is heartwarming. The family value is not dead.

It infuriates me to know that in this great country there is even one homeless child. I want to share a painting I did called All the Comforts of Home that speaks to this issue.

God bless you and your family Mark you are an inspiration and a testament to love.

with warm regards,
Tony

Mark, after all you and your children have been through I'm thrilled to see that things continue to look up.  Stepping forward for the interview was a brave thing.  It is important that people are able to put a childs face and back-story to the plight of homeless in this country.  People get there for a variety of reasons.  Some self inflicted some just through the randomness of life.  I stand amazed at your strength and admire the way you've kept your children with you throughout.  I hope you continue to find open doors on your travels.  You certainly deserve them.

Tony, that painting is heartbreaking.  Nice job.

Damn, so many people are only one sick kid or serious illness away from this kind of thing. It ain't right.

Mark, best wishes to you and family***

me and my kids left last year.  we were in a DV shelter throughout the summer of 2006.  I obtained an apartment a year ago September.  It was hell but we survived.  If you would like to talk anytime, please pm me.

i've been away from the board because of all the turmoil and not sure how to deal in public forum.  God bless you for your candidness.

Hugs!
Kim
