Title: hello new member Post by outlaw67_11 on Nov 3rd, 2007, 1:34am hello everyone im a new member to this site i have suffered from the beast for 32 yrs now. i wrote a poem about them and would like to share it if no one minds so here goes AWAKE I awake in the night sweating, tears streaming down my face. shaking clear to my soul. Arising in a daze head aching pain unimaginable praying for it to stop pacing the floor hoping not to wake anyone wondering if this is my time if this is the one to kill me sucking oxygen, popping shots, taking pills trying to get relief finding none was it something i ate, something i drank is it to much stress what was it that started this torment than as suddenly as i awoke all is calm relief washing over me, wore out i go back to bed praying it was the last knowing it isnt fearing the next time i awake. thank you all this poem is also in my new poetry book Mirrors of the Soul by Brian D. Walker if any one is interested in more info about it like where to order or etc... please reply to this message and ill let ya know or if not please reply and let me know what ya thought of this piece anyway please thanks again Brian D. walker |

Title: Re: hello new member Post by LeLimey on Nov 3rd, 2007, 1:05pm Brian I'm going to spell it right out for you - you have three posts on this site and two of them are promoting a book you will gain financially from. Which bit of that can you not understand us being preturbed by? If you are a clusterhead, welcome, we'll help all we can. Its usual to start by telling us of your experiences to date though, not what you have for sale. This isn't freebie ebay. |

Title: Re: hello new member Post by artonio7 on Nov 3rd, 2007, 1:22pm Hello Brian, Welcome. You will find here a group of wonderful people with great advice and the capacity to be the best support group known to human kind. You will also find among this group very many talented and gifted people. Often we share poems and paintings as a means for expression and support. We do this freely. We lend support to each other who have CH and we welcome you to allow us to offer you support and join in as a supporter. It is customary that we introduce ourselves and tell a little about why we are here. Read the wealth of information and hopefully it will answer many of your questions. If you do not find the answers after reading... please do not hesitate to ask. Hope this helps. with warm regards, Tony |

Title: Re: hello new member Post by DennisM1045 on Nov 3rd, 2007, 2:49pm Hi, Don't get upset or defensive. This place has seen a lot of trolls come through selling all kinds of stuff. The kind of people who are way more interested in helping themselves to some cash than helping someone find the help they seek. So any attempt to sell anything here is met with a response similar to the one you got. Please don't let this discourage you. I'm sure you can get as much support from this site as I have. I'm also sure you can contribute from your own experience and obvious skill with the written word. Welcome to the family. -Dennis- |

Title: Re: hello new member Post by Charlie on Nov 3rd, 2007, 5:49pm I'll welcome you. Why not? Tell us about your CH and more. I wanna know. Sorry about your book though. I can't remember the last time I bought a book that was recommended to me. We're full of good ideas about dealing with this horror. It's our thing.....CH that is. Charlie |

Title: Re: hello new member Post by outlaw67_11 on Nov 3rd, 2007, 6:18pm hello thank you all for the welcomes and again i do apologize for talking about my book i did not mean to offend nor did i think to take advantage of anyone a little about me and my ch history i started getting ch when i was 8 years old i would 1 headache every year or two when i was 22 i had my first cycle or 4 - 6 attacks a day that last 2-3 months it began in the spring and i went in to remission for 2 years and began again. the last two cyles i have had began in october and have had a 3 year remission in between them i started this cycle 3 weeks ago i was diagnosed with ch i 1990 and have been on several meds for them i am currently taking predisone 50 mgs to taper down and ramped up my verapimil to 240 mgs a day ( 80 mgs 3 times a day ) and have imitrex nasal for and abortive. i use cold wash cloths or ice packs and try to focus my breathing as much as possible. this cycle so far has been mild 6-8 attacks a day that last 30 minutes at a time im hoping to kill it before it gets to 10 attacks a day that last for an hour or longer. i was pf yesterday and last night but have been having shadows all day today so im afraid i may be in for a long night. thats about it for now thanks brian |

Title: Re: hello new member Post by Redd on Nov 3rd, 2007, 7:01pm You may want to look into melatonin overnight too, if thats when you get hit the hardest. Many take up to 12/15 mg just before bed, but starting at 6/9 mg. is a good starting place. It tends to block the REM sleep phase and therefore helps prevent the attacks and wake up calls during the night. I and other found taht coupleing melatonin with 50 mg of benadryl very helpful to block the REM phase. You wake up in the AM rahter groggy, but a good strong cuppa Joe or 2 clears that up quite well. Besides Caffine is our friend! Welcome Brian. Many of us write or paint or sculpt or cook or numerous other arts and crafts. CH tends to lend to a creative streak in us in ways as original and unique as the beast manifests in us. Please feel free to post more of your work. The cathartic nature of sharing our passions through the pain is well worth it. |

Title: Re: hello new member Post by Charlie on Nov 3rd, 2007, 7:43pm Wow. You started this horror young. I was 23 and 45 when it disappeared in 1991....I ain't complaining. I did post my circulatory technique on the other board in my responce to you there. Give it a shot. It works. It sure made things more tolerable for me at the time. Like you, my cycles had an October debut, lasted about 5 or 6 weeks and reappeared in March or April for a similar time. Spring and fall cycles seem to be the norm for so many. Stick around even when not in cycle if you like. I learned an awful lot from these brain-damaged people :D Welcome aboard. Charlie |

Don't worry about it. These are really some of the best people! We all know that poem too well. Please keep posting and sharing. Welcome! Kris |

Title: Re: hello new member Post by Karla on Nov 3rd, 2007, 9:32pm Hello and welcome to the family. With getting hit that many times a day for ch is unusual. Also that short of a hit is unusal also. You may have cph. Which only responds to indomethacin. 50mg 3x/day will usually kick in and stop it dead in its tracks in 3-5 days. If verapamil doesn't help you may suggest this as the next medicine to try just to rule out that you don't have cph and that it is indeed ch. Both ha are almost identical in cycle, intensity, etc but just respond to different meds. Good luck in a search for a preventative. Also your dose of verapamil sounds a bit low. Many people here take between 600-960mg /day. So if the verapamil doesn't seem to help don't be afraid to ask the dr to up the dose. |

Title: Re: hello new member Post by Jill on Nov 4th, 2007, 4:36pm Hi there, Welcome to the board, first of all. Glad that you found this place, the information here is valuable. Having said that part... on 11/03/07 at 21:32:10, Karla wrote:
I want to respectfully disagree with this statement as it is not entirely true. I suppose that for many it is rare (maybe) to get hit that many times in a day but, for some, it is the truth. I get hit many many many times a day - six to eight on a good day. And my bad days, like the last week - I have to stop counting as it is too depressing for me. Anyways, as to the length of the attacks. Karla, you might be right. I think that CPH can last that long though I think that it is usually around fifteen minutes but I might be wrong. As to what to try, go for the caffeine - it is one of my best friends. So welcome aboard and I like your poem. Jill |

Title: Re: hello new member Post by Mosaicwench on Nov 4th, 2007, 10:27pm Welcome! If you have a spouse or significant other or anyone else who supports you during your cycles, please send them in our direction. We help supporters, too! So sorry for your pain but glad you found us. |

Title: Re: hello new member Post by Callico on Nov 5th, 2007, 12:12am welcome aboard. You will find a lot of great support and help here. Check out the CPH if you haven't yet. It would be a great thing if you can control it with Indomethycin. However, my hits tend to be similar to yours, and are CH. It is unusual, but the only thing consistant about CH is its inconsistancy. Jerry |
