You guys are really something.....

Had a call from a friend of mine this afternoon to inform me he's sleeping on my couch tonight so he can get an early start in the morning (season opens in the morning).... go figure that a couple of hours could make that much difference to the deer.

And my son is about down with the flu, but is that stopping him from going hunting before daylight - no way Jose! Tomorrow night he'll be dying and expecting sympathy (yeah right - you know he'll be gettin' it from mama - NOT!), but he'll be in his stand about 4 in the morning (and this is the kid who can't wake up till noon to get anything done during the year).

Oh well, you little boys go on and have your fun. Go kill the big old deer and bring 'em home and us "little wimmems"  will cook 'em up and tell you what big strong fellars ya are..... ;;D

Hugs BD

Maybe Sunday it'll be venison backstraps, butterflied and wrapped in Neuskes bacon and placed ever so gently on the smokin hot grill with a chunk of hickory wood in the fire for an added touch! Some glazed carrots on the side with home made apple pie and ice cream to follow.

How's that for and early "Whatcha cookin" thread! ;;D

In my part of the country, the sure fire way to get a deer is to hunt comedian Ron White style.

Slow the bullet down to 65 mph, attach headlights and a blaring horn.  This method will guarantee a nice size deer everytime  ;;D

Beth..........who hopes she doesn't get a deer this way this weekend.  ::)

Ha! Jimmers I have it on good authority (I read it on the toilet wall) that you couldn't catch a deer if someone threw the Bambi DVD at you  :P

For those of us amongst the wild game uneducated, would that be tenderloin?

Now, BD, that's not quite fair [smiley=laugh.gif].  Some of us wimmins might be out there trying to kill a big ole dear  [smiley=bigguns.gif].  It haven't hunted in the past few years, but there were several years there, that I hunted from opening day in October until the close of the season in January (bowhunt, gun, bowhunt).  That was the ONLY time that I'd get out of bed before daylight (wasn't too bad, first stand was about 200 yards from my doorstep and second stand, was about 1000 feet from my back door).

Brewdude

The tenderloins are the small strips that run along the back inside of the chest cavity (the most, tender, best tasteing part, and not very big), the back straps run along the outside of the deer and would be compare to "chops", I believe. Very good in their own right and some what more meat to them.

Other than the back straps and tenderloins we have it all ground up into venison burger and use it whenever the recipie would call for hamberger instead.  The straps and tenderloin are wrapped in bacon and broiled for a few min. each side and are mmmm good.  We generally save them for new years eve, anniversary, and other special occassions.  The heart is very good also.  I can't wait to for gun season to start so my men can get me some more venison!

Oh Lord - y'all hunt, kill and then eat poor Bambi! :-/

Just kiddin' folks - I can still remember coming home from school during hunt season and finding the critters hanging in the garage waiting for my Dad to butcher them up for the hunt camp guys.

Dad kept the hides in exchange for his skills as a butcher.  We had bags of tanned hides at our house.  They made wonderful jackets, vest, gloves, etc.

I hope I have some money left over for a trip to the casino during the week ;)

I'll give a hunting report a little later.

KILL OF THE DAY at the HENDERSONS!!!

No deer but HOGS!!

Got a mama and three little ones.....

Son is down at the barn with Caleb doing whatever it is that you men do after you kill your prey, getting it ready for the freezer.

My little Caleb (5 years old) is watching his Daddy butcher those hogs and asking me if I'm gonna cook them tonight! This child has a stomach of IRON! I told him we're having a nice SALAD for supper tonight thank you very much!

No ya'll go chase your wabbits.....

Yesterday evening I shot a doe. Now I qualify for a buck tag for next year. We have the "earn a buck" qualification in our hunting area.

I'll be donating her to the "Hunters for the hungry" group this morning at the local butcher shop.

I'm hoping it helps someone who needs it.

Windy as hell today, I doubt it will be any good today. :-/

Jimmers, where the hell are ya??  I don't think you're too far from me, and yes, hunting will probably suck today.  Here's the forecast: Today: A slight chance of rain and snow showers after 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. West northwest wind between 23 and 28 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Fun, fun, fun! ::)

BTW, thanks for donating your doe.  Good on ya!  I hope to heck Lily gets her deer this year.  She shot and hit 4 last year, but only grazed them all!  It was her 1st time hunting and she refuses to use a scope, so hopefully after the practice over the summer she'll drop one (or more) in one shot.  She knows she'll get bitched at by mom if she ever does that again like last year, lol!  Jesse I'm not worried about cause he always gets some each year, so thankfully our freezer will have enough.

Good luck dude!

Mel, I'm in Wautoma! Not to far away from you and da Family. I told you this at Mil-Con, I think your just avoiding buying me dinner ;;D

Sounds like Lily is a good "Old fashioned" hunter! Good for her! Better to learn the old way without a scope. Now you just have to get a bow in her hands, I'd bet my bottom dollar she'd be an awesome shot.

I believe if people get the kids interested in hunting and hunter safety when they are young, there will never be a problem with them being curious about firearms and firearms safety.

I'm sick of this WIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I wish someone would shoot that buck that traipses through my backyard eating my plants!!!!
