Jail is not pleasant I hear. ;;D These 3 who are the defendants in this case won't be able to work anywhere w/o having their wages garnered, etc. even if their church is not affected, THEY personally will be. I belong to the Patriot Guard as does Tanner and a few others here. We could not be happier. Linda |

Obviously their attorney needs to brush up on a few things When did a funeral become a "public event" "Earlier, church members staged a demonstration outside the federal courthouse. Church founder Fred Phelps held a sign reading "God is your enemy," while Shirley Phelps-Roper stood on an American flag and carried a sign that read "God hates fag enablers." Members of the group sang "God Hates America" to the tune of "God Bless America." WOW, what a bunch of great people >:( >:( >:( Glad some justice and sanity has entered our country for once >:( |

Title: Re: FUCKENEH!!!! Post by Maffumatt on Nov 1st, 2007, 8:56am Beyond the emotions of the case...what speech is going to be banned next? The people protesting executions? Anti-War activists? PETA? mine? Yours? Its a slippery slope and this sets a bad precedent. |

Sadly, since the law limits how this would normally have been handled (ie. bunch of people putting a major ass whooping on these idiots) we end up with needing to have a governmental definition of common-f'ing sense. Not everything is a slippery slope -- sometimes, as a result of the idiots, someone finally has to say, "that's it! no more!". I have a relative who goes to a church that is only a couple of degrees left of these idiots and out of a commitment to try and not rile up my wife's family any more than they are I let the e-mail missives go by, ignoring them as much as possible. But there will be a day when it goes too far, and I have to say "that's it, no more!". Limits exist, whether there are laws or not. Scott |

Sorry, that's not a valid argument. You can't say 'beyond the emotions of the case' when the case is all about the emotional pain and suffering that those nut jobs inflicted on the family. Look, nobody is saying they don't have the right to say what they say. No kind of speech is being 'banned' here. What the court is saying is people have to be responsible for what they say. That's a whole different thing. The government didn't press charges, the family did. The government isn't banning anything or punishing anybody... the family sued and won on the merits of their case. Can you not see how that has *nothing* to do with free speech? This is an example of the system actually working well. The church members will now have to consider the fact that even though they have the right to free speech, they don't have the right to maliciously cause pain and suffering. TWO DIFFERENT ISSUES. |

Title: Re: FUCKENEH!!!! Post by Mrs Deej on Nov 1st, 2007, 1:16pm So obviously death is inevitable, and at some point my father, step-mother and husband will perish (maybe I'll go first, who knows) but there will be a time for a funeral in honor and rememberance for these individuals. They have served their country with loyalty, valor, and unequivocal honor. God help me if I'm there and these people are within 1,000 feet of my family. I really don't know what I would/will do. I live in the same state as these sick fucks and I'm ashamed that our legislature hasn't, nor will not do more to stop this vicious, disrepectful act. I gurantee you if a state/national official had a death in the family that served in the military, and they had this happen to them, it would be on the books until it was taken care of. Even more, we have this thing called the first amendment that protects these people and unfortunately allows them to say and do as they are. Where's the humanity? Disgusted............... :-/ :'( |

Title: Re: FUCKENEH!!!! Post by Ghost on Nov 1st, 2007, 2:52pm Stop them? No change there tactics Yes. They made some big mistakes at least at that funeral and made diragitory remarcs about him within the distance ok'd. there was other things they did that costs them, They will skirt the line for a while then go back to there attacks the way they did before. Hope next time they get jail time if and when they break the law. Kinda like if someone says the will rib you, untill they try you cant do much but prepare. Maybe we can send them to delaware. Mike |

Title: Re: FUCKENEH!!!! Post by Maffumatt on Nov 1st, 2007, 3:14pm please don't think I support those 'people'. I just hate to see what comes next. It seems every time the government gets there foot in the door bad things happen. If those people showed up at a funeral of one of my loved ones I would probably go to jail. Thats the problem with society any more, people don't stand up for themselves, they want the government to do it for them. |

Title: Re: FUCKENEH!!!! Post by Emily on Nov 1st, 2007, 3:50pm It seems to me that these horrible people are simply using religion as an excuse to behave intolerably - unfortunately as we see so often! BTW - I'm not tarnishing all religious folk with the same brush. It is just a popular mask for fanatics to wear when they are 'fighting' for something they believe in, be it in protest or in war. |

Title: Re: FUCKENEH!!!! Post by Callico on Nov 1st, 2007, 5:31pm As a Christian who happens to be a Baptist I take great offense at Phelps and all of his ilk. He is no more of a Christian than Madeleine Murray O'Hare was. He was put out of the college he was attending to prepare for ministry for his bigotted views, and they have not chan ged. A few months ago here in Aurora we buried a young Marine who was my daughter's good friend. As a result of Phelps and his ilk there was an honor guard of veteran bikers who stood guard outside the funeral home and at the church. They were there to be sure there would be NO interuption or disturbance to make the terrible ordeal suffered by the family worse. I made it a point to shake hands with each and to say thanks. Most of them were Viet Nam vets with a couple of Korean War vets who remember the slurs they had to put up with when they returned home. God bless the judge and jury who had the decency to speak for the greater part of this country that cannot abide those fools. Jerry |

Title: Re: FUCKENEH!!!! Post by assaultme on Nov 1st, 2007, 6:15pm I too, Matt, don't like the Gooberment sticking their nose in stuff. But I don't see it as un-Constitutional or a slippery slope. They have free speech, but not at my dead kids funeral (not mine, but someones) I do agree with you tho as far as going to jail goes. I couldnt sit back and take that kind of disrespect without removing them from sight. Free speech shouldn't be screwed with, but I think there are limits. The old "screaming fire in a crowded theater" may not be a perfect example. But I just don't think one has a right to go to someones funeral and do such hateful things. I mean, it's not (IMO) a public forum...a funeral that is. If I use my freedom of speech to incite people to attack & kill someone, I feel that I am culpable for the death. Just my opinion, I don't know Constitutional precedent to prove it. But it just makes sense to me. I suppose we all have a little different idea of what decency is, but MAN!!!! that is simply outrageous by any reasonable persons standards. I think they recklessly caused damage to the family as well as the deceased persons honor. Cheers, Dave |

Post by Rosybabe on Nov 1st, 2007, 6:27pm If they hate this country so much and hate gays so much why they don't move to Iran? their President says there are not gays in his country. A funeral is a private event and as such should be entitled to all the respect available it does not matter who die, for what cause or what religion they practice. The pain and suffering of the mourners should always be respected. >:(. |

Title: Re: FUCKENEH!!!! Post by mikey-de on Nov 3rd, 2007, 2:49pm Hey Jonny!!! [smiley=headbanger.gif] I love this!!! All these people worshipping a bunch of religious dogma. Wake up people...it's a book of stories and parables about worshipping something bigger than you. Bunch of sheeple. Call me athiest, heretic, whatever. It's like Dave Matthews sings: "There's no God above and no hell below, It's up to us...." (Music track-Mother Father) This is some enlightening info if you have a few hours to watch an online movie that will clear some of the religious dogma and propaganda out of the way so you can see religion for what it is....bullshit.(Where is the bullshit smiley??? [smiley=laugh.gif] ) Check it out here www.zeitgeistmovie.com A free movie to watch online or you can download it from P2P groups like Bit torrent, limewire, bearshare, etc. if you don't have a high speed connection. I consider myself somewhat enlightened after 35 years of searching for religious truth through theological studies. This really shows history of religion and dietic worship. This guy (Phelps) can go to his imaginary hell and burn with his imaginary dichotomous satan. hehe (edit)-Of course this is IMHO, I am very tolerant of all beliefs, but I also have my own and have an opinion of other beliefs. This is merely an expression of my opinion about other beliefs and is not intended to crush your belief system...lol Although I believe it necessary to add that I was: ("Chronologically 'sick and ashamed and happy'" ) [a donut for whoever gets the words right from the Tragically Hip song this is taken from - hehe :D]) for several days following the discovery of this video. It really shook my foundations. MAN I LOVE THE INTERNET!!!! I felt the need to share this important link. |

Forcing your beliefs on others, negating their beliefs and despoiling their private moments are the actions of the true bigots be it at a funeral or on a web board. I expect my beliefs to be treated with respect and therefore I will respect yours but only until your comments about MY beliefs become offensive or demeaning.
