Title: Wanna hear somethin' good for a change?? Post by BarbaraD on Oct 24th, 2007, 7:22am Yesterday I was working and the phone rang. It was the local Postmistress... She was checking to see if I was OK - cause (now take a deep breath on this one) I hadn't picked up my mail in a few days.... It's 500 feet DOWNHILL to the mailbox and I just wait until I'm GOING somewhere to pick up the mail, so.... sometimes it piles up for a day or two. But apparently the carrier got concerned cause my truck hadn't gone anywhere and I hadn't picked up my mail and said something to her and she just called to check on me. I thought this was one of the nicest things that's happened since she sent me a get well card when I had pneumonia (yep she did that when she heard I was was sick). Only in the country can things like this happen. Thought I'd share that with all you "city slickers" -- there's a lot to be said for Mayberry RFD. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Wanna hear somethin' good for a change?? Post by Brewcrew on Oct 24th, 2007, 7:32am Well, that was mighty nice of her, Barb. There's something to be said for living in an environment where human beings can still express their concern for one another. |

Title: Re: Wanna hear somethin' good for a change?? Post by BarbaraD on Oct 24th, 2007, 4:37pm After years in the city and not getting "too" well acquainted with your neighbors, it's nice to go back in time where you can leave your doors unlocked and know if your neighbor needs something, they'll leave a note when they borrow it.... today my neighbor brought some chicken down for me to cook for supper -- she's got some things to do, doesn't like eating alone and knew I would cook it and we'd have a nice dinner tonight. Works for me... It'a nice to leave and see the world, but it's also nice to come back and see that things just haven't changed much. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Wanna hear somethin' good for a change?? Post by JenniferD on Oct 24th, 2007, 5:04pm Barb I read your post this morning and it really helped to shape my day. Even living in a small town, we can "forget" that small town-ness when we get so busy with our day. I looked at my surroundings and the people living here with fresh eyes today :) I am so glad for you that you live in such a wonderful place and that in small towns everywhere, that "old days" attitude lives on and is strong! Thanks for the smiles, Jen |

Title: Re: Wanna hear somethin' good for a change?? Post by Annette on Oct 24th, 2007, 5:21pm Thanks Barb for sharing your story, makes me happy to know there are still love and care around us. It shows the contrary to life in the big city though. The local newspaper yesterday had a column on a local man who collapsed and died in his flat but wasnt found until 5 weeks later. His friends and workmates were apparently looking for him but no one bothered to actually check to see if he was OK. Sad ! Take care and be well my dear :-* |
