Title: So-Cal is burning! Post by Guiseppi on Oct 22nd, 2007, 8:36am The Santa Anas are back and we're paying for it! 7 fires in my county right now, all out of control. At least 1 fatality, a bunch of fire fighters already burned pretty bad and we're losing houses. They're dressing all of us deputies up as firemen and shipping us out today! I'll try and post some pictures but I suspect I won't be back on a computer till late Tuesday or Wednesday! This is the ONLY time of the year So-Cal isn't the greatest place to live! Send some COOLING vibes our way. ;) Guiseppi |

Title: Re: So-Cal is burning! Post by Brewcrew on Oct 22nd, 2007, 11:23am From NBC News: SAN DIEGO -- With fire spreading quickly westward, San Diego County officials ordered the evacuation of a huge area east of Interstate 15 between Del Dios Highway and Highway 56 early Mon"This is the worst fire this county has ever seen -- worse than the Cedar Fire [of 2003]," Sheriff Bill Kolender said. At a news conference shortly after 6 a.m., officials said fires had spread dramatically overnight, whipped by fierce Santa Ana winds. They said fire had jumped Interstate 15 at Lake Hodges and was burning in parts of Rancho Bernardo. Because of the explosive and unpredictable nature of the blazes, all residents living between Interstate 15 and Interstate 5 from Del Dios Highway in the north to Highway 56 in the south were told to begin evacuating. "This fire is moving very quickly," San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders said. "Watch TV, listen to the radio and have your car prepared to leave." Among the communities in the evacuation area are Rancho Sante Fe, Carmel Highlands, Rancho Bernardo, Del Mar Heights and Fairbanks Ranch and parts of Rancho Penasquitos. Officials have opened Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley to handle the large number of evacuees. Sanders asked everyone in San Diego County to minimize the use of cell phones to leave the airways free for the use of emergency personnel.day. |

I'm sorry I can't help Rosy. I know that's in Orange County. So much of SD is burning right now and so many people have been evacuated. I know they are saying 250,000 but by now it may be twice that. All of our local channels have had nothing but coverage of the SD fires and evacuation updates all day and that's for those of us lucky enough to still have power. I have a lot of friends and co-workers waiting to see if they still have a home or not. So, I'm a little out of touch with what's going on outside of SD. Phone service is spotty here right now, so maybe that's the case up there too. ~Kris |

Here's the scary part about this. Because of the looting, a lot of people that need to leave their homes because they are in dangerous area are refusing to leave because they are afraid of being robbed. The news is reporting people sitting in their driveways with guns instead of leaving. Then these people are needing to be rescued when they get trapped by the fire. It's pretty bad here. But I'm still in the clear for now. I may have to go evacuate my grandmother. Still can't go into work, it's in an evacuation area. The fire by my work is still 0% contained. |

Title: Re: So-Cal is burning! Post by CostaRicaKris on Oct 24th, 2007, 11:13pm Hi all, The Santa Ana is dying down but the fires are still out of control. Hopefully the job of our very brave law enforcement officers (like our very own Guiseppi) and firemen and women will get easier but they are no where near over. I'd like to brag about my hometown of San Diego for a moment. There were so many donations at the evacuation centers that many people that brought donations (myself included) were turned away. And some evacuation centers had more volunteers then evacuees. That is really something considering the fact that more than 532,000 San Diegans were evacuated. I am very fortunate. My family and home are safe. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and messages. ~Kris |

Title: Re: So-Cal is burning! Post by Tiannia on Oct 25th, 2007, 11:57am Kris that is awesome. In timese like this it is easy sometimes to focus on the negative, that that is a huge thing that people are doing. I am glad that you and your family are safe. Be careful withthe air down there. That is going to cause a lot of problems for people. I know that it has effected the air quality in Vegas as well over the past 10 years because the ash gets carried there. Joe and Christy. I dont knwo what I can say except, I am glad that he is safe and that he and his people where able to help. I cant imagine how hard he has been pushing himself. Or how worried you have been each time he leaves the house. Take care of each other. I have a friend that lives in the SD area, and he has dropped off the radar about 2 years ago and I cant find him. I am hoiping that he is ok. Tia |
