IF they are (and no one will ever know) then its the government that's pulling them, not these guys choosing to go. I've never seen a fight yet these lads have walked away from. When I lived in Cyprus I had a lot of friends in the RAF/Army. There was a hostage crisis at Larnaca airport involving a plane that wanted to go to Syria so the SAS were on the base, ready to go when and if the Cyps invited them to join the party. Now an SAS man will never tell you there in the SAS incidentally. I was on the base with some friends that night and my friend and I were sitting in the bar while her hubby and his mates played pool. A couple of these lads wandered over and started chatting to us so, me being me was winding them up all I could saying SAS stood for Saturdays and Sundays and so on. They couldn't answer anything but you could tell by the grins they were ready to. They did take it in good part though. Well these lads were coiled and sitting around was doing them no good so they got quite rowdy, singing and arsing about (not badly) and the RAF Police were called in. They chose to take the lads and lock 'em up for the night and let them sleep it off. Within half an hour, they were back in the bar. The RAF Police were securely locked up in their own cells and these lads were thirsty :) Now if that's what they can do in good humour I for one wouldn't like to cross them! Elite troops are elite troops whatever the country and they all have my never ending respect - as does ANY Soldier. It doesn't take an SAS man to fight to the bitter end, just a rue Patriot. Even in France their Elite corps don't have the traditional yellow stripe running right the way down their backs.. its punctuated by brown splodges ;) I will definitely buy Marcus Luttrell's book if for no other reason than that I feel these stories ought to be told. If he had died too no one would know what these men do for us. Based on a quote from the book - "I turned into a blanking liberal. A half assed no logic nitwit, no heart no brain no judgement. The judgement of a jackrabbit" ROTFLMAO - he has a pretty pithy turn of phrase doesn't he?! |

Title: Re: 4 vs 100 Post by Jimi on Oct 24th, 2007, 9:20am Great story. I have just about decided that whichever presidential candidate convinces me that he will get us out of Afganistan and Iraq is going to get my vote. Either Republican or Democrat, I don't care. I am convinced that is the most important issue we need to correct (at least in the next 4 years) |
