Title: dealing with telemarketers
Post by Callico on Oct 20th, 2007, 2:48pm
Just found a terrific new way to deal with telemarketers!  I think this will put a stop to some of the calls we get.

http://www.glumbert.com/media/telemarketer

Enjoy.

ROLFLMMFAO!!!! [smiley=laugh.gif] [smiley=laugh.gif] [smiley=laugh.gif]

That's better than handing the phone to my 5 y/o!  She usually talks them to death in 2 minutes.

I was going to say we just put our number on the DO NOT CALL Registry and have not had a telemarketer call here in aprox 2 1/2 years.  I love it.  However, after listening to the link I about died laughing.  I can not believe that someone had the guts to do that.  That defiently tops the cake.  What a hoot!

I love winding telemarketers up - I can't write down some of the things I've done here because I'm protecting my anonymity but that was brilliant.

Thanks Jerry  ;;D

That is a funny one.  I have stolen part of that line and use it regularly cause i take appointments all day.  When I ask where the appointment will be, they say "at the office".  So I always say "Lets say, for example, I want to mail you a letter................."

I do something similar. Act kinda crazy and ask em: "Hey, you know what solvent I can use to get human blood out of carpet?....and if they think a normal sized womans body will fit in a 55 gallon drum"

Most of the time I hang up on them tho.

The do not call list is wonderful.  Now if I can get pollsters and politicans on that list, life will be wonderful.

One of the less insidious things I do is talk dirty to them. I repeatedly ask them about their underwear because - and here is the rub - they can't do a damn thing about anything you say!

I work for Capital One and when we complained about how abusive some people were on the phone we were told that since we were generating the call we were powerless as we could just hang up. If you call someone else and you're obscene you can be done but if you call THEM and THEY are obscene then its your call to hang up.

Since finding that out I haven't had nearly enough sales calls. I find them a real tension breaker!!  ;;D

You should see the look on the Mormon proselytizers faces when I say “what do you mean by born again, didn’t you believe the first time around”. And did they write the bible wrong the first time and had to correct it for the Mormons? I never get an answer!

Rolo.. ;;D

Angie will listen to them for a little bit, not me!!! I answer a phone all day long at work and the last thing I need when I get to my "happy place called home" is the phone ringing and when you pick it up there is no one there!, so I just hang up and walk away, Repeat as needed. I hang up as quickly as I can find out it's a telemarketer, I figure the quicker the less personal the hang up is.

I used to be a telemarketer but that doesn't mean that I'd like getting calls myself. My advice: be polite, keep your tone nice and end it quickly, I personally liked "I'm so sorry, I have to go, have a nice day". I try to do the same; after all, they're people too - and back in here, telemarketers are usually young and desperate and doing that job because nothing else is available.

I've found out that most of them actually don't listen what you say, so although I've said my name (as many Finns do when they answer the phone) and they ask for me, I've got away with "oh, she's not home right now and I should be going, bye!" many, many times. ;;D

Once I nearly threw my phone to the wall, because I got TWO telemarketers calling me before 8.30 am and I was getting hit in the between...

The last telemarketer called me last week when I was doing grocery shopping. When I picked up, the lady started telling me how I had entered a competition lately and naturally my hopes went up - had I win something??? - for nothing. The interesting thing was that I had not entered my phone number with that competition... They're sneaky.

They are both classic examples of letting them ignorant bastards have it. Did anyone notice they like to call during dinner. :o

My personal favourite is junk mail.

I take all the junk mail from one company and put it in the reply paid envelope for another one and so on. Then I send them all back and giggle quietly wondering how they like getting junk main (that they have to pay the postage on!!) themselves  ;;D

HeeHee ...   I have an even better approach for them!  When I answer the door, I am hidden behind the door, and just stick my head around the door.  When I find out who they are (Mormons, Jehovah's Witness, etc.), I then step into full view, and invite them in.  Except I am totally nekkid!  They always seem to have an excuse, why they don't come in ...

Catch me with a hangover and let one of the church saviors come to my door and I'll begin saving souls royally -- for some reason they've never come back...

As to telemarketers -- I just tell them I'm on the other line with an obscene caller and would they please call back another time... But ya'll have a nice day now ya hear!

And Helen -- I've already started -- been doing that a long time -- love it... get the grab / pay the tab...

I'm ON the do not call list BUT the suckers still get thru...  Now the obscene callers I really don't mind, but those idiots SELLING something I just have fun with.

Oh well - it don't take much to entertain me.... ;;D

Hmm, I'd like to talk with bunch of Mormons about few things, but for some odd reason they're never knocking on my door... I got A+ from my essay about Mormons, so I have plenty of things to bother them with... ;;D Perhaps they can sense it! [smiley=laugh.gif]

I alwas refused to let Jehovahs Witnesses in the house but they turned up about once a month for years until a new workmate was amongst them and I didn't like to upset her.

So a bit of quick thinking had to be done whilst I put the kettle on.

Do take a seat I said and you are all welcome whenever you like but I must insist we never discuss God or the Bible.

They were very quiet, in fact almost speechless and they did come once after that, it was 18 years ago and I have never been bothered by Jehovahs Witnesses since  - so  it worked very well!!!

I have nothing against that or any religion - I just like to be left in peace to choose!
