Title: Has anyone ever made fun of your CH?
Post by Tara Ann on Oct 17th, 2007, 8:51pm
When my younger step bro did I was in complete shock that anyone could make fun of someone in such excruciating pain!
And then the night I passed out into the sink of dishes when I was washing them and came to half soaking wet, humiliated, embarrassed, upset, and in pain.  I hear laughter, turn and look to see him laughing at me!

Never in my life had I known such cruel, cold hearted, in compassionate ppl as the 2 step brothers that I have gotten to know recently!

Have any of you encountered anyone "making fun" of your clusters?

No end of those that didn't understand it - but laugh about it - never.

Frankly, that boy needs to have somebody square him - preferably with steel toed boots on! >:(

Thankfully you'll soon be away from that house of crazies!

Not made fun of, but living for six months with what turned out to be my now wife.....she said the wrong thing.

In the mitst of a kip 10 (Which she had seen before) she said "get over it its just a HA"

With that I picked up a large cooler full of ice and beer and ran as hard as I could and slammed it completely through a plaster wall hoping she was on the other side to feel some pain.

Needless to say that never ever happen again......we had only been dating for six months at the time, but she is lucky she lived after that remark!

Soon after I was dignosed and she sat in and realized just what torture I had been going through for almost twenty years.

Now I am left alone to deal with it and thats the way I have always wanted it.

The morning I left Blythe after bring my dad up there I woke up with a hit, I went to the kitchen to get a couple ice pops to  chew ( that helps btw, try it) since I was out of trex,  my mom passed me and saw the tears streaming and snot running, she put her hand on my arm, chuckled a couple of times and then walked away. For the life of me I can't figure that out.....But I am glad that she has no clue.

Ditto...although there was more to it than that it was a contributing factor.

Tara Ann:

I don't know exactly what to say to that.  Obviously to laugh in the face of pain is heartless.  In the midst of a bad run (are there ever any good runs?) of headaches, I have much less of a sense of humor.

If someone was teasing me about my pain, I might have a violent reaction, emotionally speaking.  It would take a lot to get me to actually become violent, but the resistance to the temptation becomes paper thin.

In my case, the "fight or flight" reflex kicks in about Kip 8+.  Don't come to tease me then, or I won't be accountable for my actions.  Remember that kid on "House"....?

Ray -- with occasional temptations to come on over to the dark side (in my best Darth Vader voice).

So sorry Tara Anne. What is wrong with him anyway? Stay strong and we are here for you 24/7. I still cannot believe he did that. (sucks to be him) ;;D

It's pretty touchy with me, too.

Fortunate my siblings have known me all my life, g/f more than half my life, then at one time or another witnessed me having a hit and realize it's a seriously debilitating time for me by the expression of pain they are not used to ever seeing.

Yup..... What Ree and Cynjeep said. Um.... except... divorced "her". lol

I really can't understand the mindset of someone who would laugh at this. The term "pure evil" comes to mind.

Ever really talk to them and explain it to them? I'm sure you probably have, which makes their laughing even worse.

Hope you stay tough, and don't let it get to you. They'll get a little cosmic justice soon enough.

We don't laugh, we don't judge, so feel free to come to your CH family when you're feeling bad. That's what we're here for!

Best wishes,
Adam

The way one looks when having an attack I would think would evoke maybe fear or cause someone to ask if they need an ambulance. I cant imagine it causing laughter. It doesn't even look silly or funny, it looks frightening.....kinda like someone who has just been busted up in an auto accident.

I suppose if there are those who make fun of mentally retarded kids, they would get a good laugh outta CH  [smiley=huh.gif] :-/ [smiley=huh.gif]

I dunno, it just looks like the sufferer is having a brain aneurysm.

I think if I had never seen CH  (like 4 months ago) I would call 911 or something.

One time at work, before I knew what it was, I started hitting myself on the other side of my head.

My son looked at me, kinda embarrassed, and asked what was going on. My work partners looked shocked and told me to go to the Doctor because I could be in serious trouble.

I don't know what to say Tara Ann. I cant imagine anyone finding humor in what happened to you.

No, they have not. But I think  a lot of them wanted to.

The only one who is allowed to make fun of my ch is me. I may joke about it, but only to check that I haven't lost my ability to do so in the middle of dealing with this pain.

My aunt is famous for her bad jokes and inappropriate comments. She said once to my mum that I'm just imagining ch... ::) Should she repeat that comment and/or make jokes/fun about ch in front of me, she will soon learn that one should never do that about things she has no idea about.

I'm sweet, nice, caring and compassionate, but when someone hurts me, thanks to ch, I'm not afraid to use the bullets I have on my belt. And I know my aunt and her 2 daughters well enough to have lots of material in my hands. I've let plenty of things slide over the years, but ch is no laughing matter.

Sorry TA, but I'm afraid there would have been some broken dishes and step-brother would have required some ER treatment for bleeding... (temporary insanity caused by severe pain) had he laughed at me!  But then again, I'm not a nice person during a hit.... you're a much better person than I am.

I wasn't nice.  I flipped my cookie, it was like 130 am or so, Sam woke up and so did my step mom wondering what all the yelling was about, I was yelling and crying at the same time (tears of frustration really)

I swear if I wasn't unsteady on my feet from just passing out I think I might have hit him and I am not one to throw the first punch.  I had explained CH to everyone in great detail.  Even my sister who is usually very self centered told those boys that I have a very painful condition and that I am in excruciating pain

THis house is the loony bin, I just have to keep my head on straight for a bit longer and keep on keeping on.

Ya know, I've read this a few times now, and the more I do, the more I have to respect your restraint during a hit. I have a VERY hard time controlling my temper when I get hit with anything at a kip 8 or higher (even at kip 5 I get a little cranky). Had I been in your position, I would have given the bastard a taste of what CH felt like by taking a pot or pan out of the sink, and bashing his skull in!
I feel so bad you've had to put up with this! I'm holding back tears just thinking about how insensitive, rude and just downright MEAN that is!! I know a lot of us have said we wouldn't wish CH on our worst enemy, but it's people like that who NEED to feel what it's like. I know that's a rotten thing to say, but if that's what it takes....

I SINCERELY hope this NEVER happens to you again.

Best wishes, and a big hug,  [smiley=hug.gif]
Adam

Only the ignorant people would make fun of it--I know how frustrating it is to try and explain the bullshit pain that we go through. If some one were to make fun of me while in a cycle-----I really don't know how I would handle it, but it wouldn't be pretty.

my ex was that cruel.

I could be rolling on the floor in pain in the night and she'd yell out to keep quiet that I was waking her up.

I've been treated thoughtlessly and even cruelly. I was even given a parking ticket whilst sitting in my car sucking on O2 (bastard didn't even see if I was okay, he didn't know what was wrong and I could have been dying for all he knew  :-/ )

I've never been laughed at that I'm aware of though and I can't imagine who or why anyone could find this "funny"

He sounds like a pretty sorry excuse for a person to me TA. I'm sorry you had to put up with him

More accurately, for me..."How many times have I..."

Have met alot of disbelief, had it downplayed...even laughing (by a Dr. no less, when I made a point to stop there during a bad hit..so he'd see what I meant...)...and from some of the most unexpected places and people...

Here's an idea to make him understand.

Pound his balls flat with a wooden mallett. Make sure you giggle with every swing of the hammer.

Darn, not a single man has made fun of my ch, so I can't give that a try... But somehow I think it would not make the other person understand ch. Perhaps listen and pay attention, but understand... nope.

The worst one for me was my mother laughing at the thought that o2 could possibly help with a MIGRAINE... Grrr  >:(

To be fair though, I haven't helped her to understand or even really explained properly (the relationship isn't great, as you may have guessed!).

Good thing it was a telephone call and she is 30 miles away. Ooohhh, there'd have been trouble otherwise!

Edit - spelling errors

I like it Jimmers.  It made me smile too.

It feels good to think about anyway. Doesn't matter if he understands or not...I don't think that's the point here...it's a more "you think this is FUNNY??"...here's some pain...let's see how YOU enjoy my insensitivity.

I was shouting for oxygen...and taking his good old time...he dug out an E tank...and coudln't even set it up.  Great.  Just when I was going to rip it out of his hand...a nurse walked in and helped him...

Seeing someone in agony provokes concern out of me...I WANT to help them...don't understand laughing at seeing a full blown hit...

you really do control your temper well,i think i would have beat him with a pan also. it is hard for people to understand this creature that we deal with everyone i talk to says "yeah i have migraines too" i would pay alot of money to have migraine headaches instead of clusters

I like the ideas in this post.  Yeah I've had some serious restraint in my eyes, but the ppl in this house think I've been more or less a crazy woman.  I have been overly sensitive to everything my step brothers say now.  They are just so damn mean at the worst times that I'm always on the defensive.  When Sam heard after the first incident of mean and cruelty from my younger step brother, oooh boy the sh*t hit the fan when he came in the door!!!   ;;D Oh I just love my supporter/dh/protector Sam, he is just the absolute best! :-*
