Title: Disgruntled insurance member... Post by Melly_Mudflaps on Oct 17th, 2007, 3:33pm That is exactly what I feel like today! [smiley=furious.gif] WTF is the point of paying hundreds of dollars a month in premium and then a $1200 deductible on top of it?? Damn jerks! |

Title: Re: Disgruntled insurance member... Post by Melly_Mudflaps on Oct 17th, 2007, 3:49pm ;;D Glad you like it! I love pumpkins, carved ones, uncarved, pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, pumpkin cookies & bars, pumpkin bread, etc., etc. As for the topic of my thread and staying on course, it'd wouldn't be ch.com if it didn't go off on a tangent! ;) BTW, I feel better now that I spouted off. |

Title: Re: Disgruntled insurance member... Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Oct 17th, 2007, 3:51pm Insurance companies have the legislature in their back pocket. There is nothing we can do. A friend of mine just recovered from brain cancer. The fine print on his policy says he has a $1million lifetime limit. He thought that would be enough. His bills came to $350k. Little did he know, in even smaller print, so small it was unable to be seen with the naked eye, his policy says there is a $100k max payout for cancer. So, even though he had a policy with a large, reputable health insurance company, he got stuck with a bill for $250k. Even though he has insurance, he has to pay for more than half of his medical costs. Thats just plain bullshit in my book. |

Title: Re: Disgruntled insurance member... Post by aubmari on Oct 17th, 2007, 4:09pm Ya know it really sucks that we pay out the rear, monthly for insurance and it really only touches the major stuff. .... and still then not really. If I saved all of the money that I pay monthly for insurance and paid cash for all of my medical expenses I would have some left over for sure!! But then what if I go back in cycle or something worse happens. I feel very conflicted about it most of the time. >:( Aubmari |

Title: Re: Disgruntled insurance member... Post by Redd on Oct 17th, 2007, 5:54pm Private insurance isn't insurance anymore. It's just another bill when you consider high premiums and deductables and co-pays and limitations of covereage. But then there are the arguements over socialized Medicine, and I can see both sides of that issue so I'm torn. I, being one with NO insurance, don't like either option, however no coverage at all does keep me from getting routine care, or check ups. I've got to be really suffering or concerned before I pay out of pocket. I don't know what to think. Lets just say I hope every day that the alternatives don't fail me. I'd be in a world of financial hurt. |

Title: Re: Disgruntled insurance member... Post by Charlie on Oct 17th, 2007, 10:31pm Insurance companies have been given the right to screw us more than ever. They are evil. I had to dump mine last year. There was no way I could afford it. Rant away. Charlie |

Title: Re: Disgruntled insurance member... Post by BarbaraD on Oct 18th, 2007, 7:33am Mine just jumped the payments to DOUBLE. for what reason I can't tell. I've been to the doctor (office visits which I paid for because of the deductible) 5 times this whole damn year). They paid very little on my scripts. And that's it. I could have paid the whole damn thing out of pocket and SAVED money from what I paid on premiums yet they're raising it to DOUBLE! I need surgery on a splitered bone in my nose. I'm going in the end of the month to see if they're gonna approve that. If they don't - then I'm dropping the damn policy and waiting for medicare. Another year of not being able to breathe shouldn't be a problem - right? Damn damn damn insurance companies!!!!! I may reapply for disability to get on medicare. I'm on SS, but need the damn insurance. I just can't afford the premiums for private insurance. It's just gotten outrageous. If I were sick I might could see it, but I'm healthy (except for my head and I have office visits to my neuro three times a year for goodness sakes and maybe a cold for a visit to my GP). It's not like I'm running up a big bill or something. My history shows I've not been sick in about 20 or 30 years. It's just ridiculous what they charge. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: Disgruntled insurance member... Post by Emily on Oct 18th, 2007, 7:43am Completely off this topic, but going on the tangent earlier in the thread... Melly, I too love all things pumpkin, but it's very hard to get pumpkin stuff out here. Do you have a recipe for pumpkin pie using fresh pumpkin that I could steal from you please? Not something that is eaten here and one of the things I miss most about living there! Em |

Title: Re: Disgruntled insurance member... Post by LeLimey on Oct 18th, 2007, 8:00am Hi Emily - I adore pumpkin pie too so I had to find a recipe without being able to get the canned stuff too This one is VERY nice! Pumpkin Pie Ingredients 340g cooked pumpkin flesh, pureed using a blender, processor, or ricer 340ml evaporated milk 5 tbsp dark brown sugar 2 tbsp white sugar 1/2 tsp ground cloves 1/2 tsp Salt 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg 175g maple syrup 3 eggs, lightly beaten 1 tbsp melted butter 20cm blind-baked pastry flan case 1. Preheat the oven to 190șC/Gas 5. 2. In a mixing bowl mix together the pumpkin, evaporated milk , brown sugar, white sugar, cloves, salt, nutmeg, maple syrup, eggs and melted butter making a smooth mixture. 3. Pour the pumpkin mixture into the blind-baked flan case. Bake the pumpkin pie for 40 minutes until the crust is golden-brown and the filling has set. Remove from the oven and set aside to cool. I usually double or triple the quanties according to how much cooked pumpkin I end up with and freeze the extra pies. Hope that helps Helen |

Title: Re: Disgruntled insurance member... Post by Callico on Oct 18th, 2007, 5:03pm Look into an HSA, health savings account. You have a large deductable, and your payments go into an account that you tap into whenever you have a major bill. All money's you don't use are refunded to you, but you also have coverage above what you put in. I know AI didn't explain that well, but can't keep my thoughts together right now. Check out www.daveramsey.comand you can get more info about it. he has ELP's (endorsed local providers) that can help you understand it, and won't try to sell you a big policy you don't need. Jerry |

Mine aren't. Where did you get this information? I have always been instructed to calculate as closely as possible how much I will need to spend before the year starts because you can't get any of it back. |

Title: Re: Disgruntled insurance member... Post by Annette on Oct 18th, 2007, 5:49pm The best insurance policy in Australia will allow you to claim only maximum $600 back on scripts a year. Since the Imigran injections script cost $125 per script per box of 2, the maximum you can get is 12 injections per year ! This is why so many of Aussies sufferers have to go the med free way because no one can afford it. |
