Title: That's messed up! Post by JenniferD on Oct 15th, 2007, 10:25am http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP-tZST_XRo Excerpts from Foxnews.com Race fans didn't appreciate an advisory by the Democratic head of the Homeland Security Committee telling aides to get a series of immunizations before heading down to investigate health care facilities at the Talladega Super Speedway in Talladega, Ala., and Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. The battle hit the public consciousness last week after The Washington Times was first to report that congressional aides were advised to get vaccinations against several communicable diseases — including hepatitis, diphtheria, tetanus and influenza — before traveling on a fact-finding mission to the tracks. North Carolina Republican Party Chairwoman Linda Daves added that Democrats are not going to win over any of the prized NASCAR voters with reports like this latest one. “Democrats should know that there is no preventive measure yet designed to ward off the blue-collar values and patriotism that NASCAR fans represent. If they aren’t careful, they just might catch some of it,” she said. "Good to see the people in D.C. are as smart as ever, focused on the right issues," said Tracy Tarbutton of Ashville, N.C. |

Title: Re: That's messed up! Post by NJRik on Oct 15th, 2007, 11:38am In fact the aides were visiting "health care centers, detention facilities and other operations where they could be exposed to communicable diseases" and the immunizations are routine. |

From another Fox report: The argument began when congressional aides were advised to get real-life immunizations against several communicable diseases — including hepatitis, diphtheria, tetanus and influenza — before traveling to look at preparations being made by local first responders for hypothetical scenarios at the tracks in Talladega, Ala., and Concord, N.C And: "During the trip to North Carolina, staffers were to visit a medical facility with patients at the Lowe's Motor Speedway. They were also set to inspect an empty mobile hospital. After the House physician told Republican staffers that shots were not necessary to go to North Carolina, they didn't get them. Democratic staffers reportedly did." Face it, dude. They messed up. ;) |

Title: Re: That's messed up! Post by NJRik on Oct 15th, 2007, 1:43pm Maybe, All I know is I'd rather have the country led by people that use science. Then we at least have a chance of some gov't money to help us and other people with real diseases. Not the people that stop congress to try and make laws for brain dead people (Terry Shivo). The flat earthers will never put monies into real medical science. |

Title: Re: That's messed up! Post by Brewcrew on Oct 15th, 2007, 2:19pm I don't recall anything in the Constitution about the government funding medical research - regardless of their beliefs. |

Title: Re: That's messed up! Post by NJRik on Oct 15th, 2007, 2:26pm I'ts a sad story of a woman who was brain dead for about eight years. Her parents and anyone can understand did not want her taken off the life support machines, Her husband did. All medical staff who saw her said that there was no hope whatsoever. Her wealthy parents went to court over and over again to stop the husband. The cast finally got so much attention that the US congress in it's supreme wisdom decided to look into her case not because she had a chance but because it was a question of science over the healing powers the heart. The US Supreme Court had to finally say enough is enough and let the poor woman die. This I used as an example of the current leaders in the US not using science but other means to come to answers for some of todays more pressing questions. I feel We as ch suffers would be better served if we had a new and different administration. |

Title: Re: That's messed up! Post by LeLimey on Oct 15th, 2007, 2:38pm I remember the Shiavo case well - what I couldn't understand was how your reasoning went as the way I see it it was "Science" that was used as the argument for making her die rather than anything else. I don't mean to defend ANY political parties here but the example you picked seems a bad one seeing as how I thought it was the judicial system that decided her fate and not a political party - or am I wrong? |

Those wonderful current political leaders (democrats) you speak of WERE using science to address current issues! What they WEREN'T using were their brains! Yeah, I'm ready for more of them thar Dems to spend all them thar medical dallars on fightin' those rampagin', maraudin', whoopin' and hollerin' rednecks! I guess Billary's healthcare has us ch'ers right there at the top of the list, along with getting the plague at a racetrack. ::) I know, I know, it was an exercise in homeland security. it was an EXERCISE in readiness on HYPOTHETICAL situations. You're missing the point, NJR. |

Title: Re: That's messed up! Post by Charlie on Oct 15th, 2007, 8:40pm Duh. I don't need nobody stickin' me with one of them dead germs. Our Republican-controlled Congress wasted its time on the Shivo case of course. The problems of the national government are reel hard. It's not conservative governing; it's nobody's damned business. Hope no one gets sick. Charlie |

Title: Re: That's messed up! Post by cynjeep89 on Oct 15th, 2007, 9:15pm Jen, I heard about that report last weekend and sat here shaking my head....and also yelled a few obscenities at the TV screen. I've been going to races since grade school and the only "disease" I have ever contracted was R.W Syndrome (Race Withdrawal Syndrome) when we had to head home. IMHO...Homeland Security Agents area a bunch of hyphchondriac pansies. I say bring 'em out to our campsite at Dover for a week. We'll feed 'em enough alcohol to kill any and every disease known to man!! |

Why, yes he did. Annointed with the prize from the same folks that gave one to Yassar Arafat the leader of a terror group, Kofi Annan, the head of the "oil for food" shell game that starved a million poor Iraqies. And then there is Jimmy "Buffoon" Carter that pronounces the most currupt elections as being on the up and up. The Nobel Peace Prize carries as much clout as the UN these days. -P. |

Title: Re: That's messed up! Post by Charlie on Oct 16th, 2007, 9:47pm The Nobel committee knows what it's doing. It doesn't award stuff lightly....of course the wacko far right blog that you sent us to doesn't agree with reason or science. Neither does George Bush. It's hard to think. Charlie |
