Title: Its a great day to cook
Post by jimmers on Oct 14th, 2007, 10:03am
Cold and damp, kinda rainy.

I think there are going to be Swedish meatballs in my future sometime today. Probably served over Polish egg noodles.

Barb is such a lucky girl being married to a guy who loves to cook! I actually do laundry to, "but why is everything pink?" ;;D

It's a great day to cook... it's raining outside and Timo is in the kitchen cooking pork as I type! ;;D

But then again, it's only fair... I made yummy chopped meat-kidney bean pie on Friday and apple muffins and blueberry-rasberry pie yesterday. :)

Pat's also making a Frisian sugar loaf for breakfast this week, and sweet potato cake with coconut pecan cream cheese frosting for dessert.

Damn, life is good.

A rich, hearty homemade soup and fresh crusty bread and butter is one of the gentle comforts of life.

Truer words were never spoken, Pegg.

After I go shopping I think I'll have to build a nice fire in the fireplace.

Change of plans here too.  It's beef wild rice caserole instead of soup.

Found I don't have any more chicken in the freezer.  Thats ok...I'm up for some good beefy rice.  Yumm Yumm.

Made the Kraut and ribs that was discussed earlier this week.  My 10 yr old said that she likes Kraut now. :)  Hubby is still out hunting, but he will get a big plate as soon as he walks in the door cause he will be cold.

You tell your 10 year old that I went 45 years not liking kraut until I tried that recipe.  Then I liked it too!

Glad you all enjoyed it.

How did I miss a recipe on here?

Pat could you email me so I can see if it's a different recipe than I make?   I love kraut with ribs, or sausage.

Spare ribs and saurekraut

3+ pounds boneless pork spareribs
2 cans sweet sauerkraut
2 teaspoons paprika
6  beef bouillon cubes
8 cups water
1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds
1/2 teaspoon pepper
10  slices of bacon; dipped in flour

Rinse and drain sauerkraut.  Place kraut in crockpot or nesco.  Add 8 cups of water, uncooked spareribs, paprika, bouillon cubes, caraway seeds, and pepper.  Cook covered all day until tender.  One half hour before serving, fry bacon dipped in flour until crisp.  Break bacon into crockpot and cook further until thickened.

Serve with spaetzle or gnocchi.

Mum likes a chicken leg, so does the old man and so do I,  so I started breeding three-legged chickens.  Total success but I don't yet know how they taste.

Haven't been able to catch one.
