Just a few pics from one of our most famous stavechurch.

Heddal Stave Church is Norways largest Stave Church. The Chancel may date from the middle of the 1100s,while the nave is from around 1240.It was restored in the 1850s and repaired 100 years later.

Its not that far from Oslo in Heddal Telemark

That is an absolutely amazing structure, and the inside, beautiful.  All wood it seems also.

John Lennon was right, isn't it good Norwegian wood.  :)

I didn't know and had wondered why the movie made with Kirk Douglas and Richard Harris was called "Heroes of Telemark".   About destroying the heavy water plant and then sinking the ferry used by the Nazi's to transport the heavy water that they had been accumulating in Norway after occupying it.

Thanks for the pictures, Svenn.

I do remember that visit.  ;;D

Thank you Svenn.  I take it that maybe Telemark is something like what we would call a county, within which are many cities.

Great pics.

Hey!!!  WTF??  You didn't bring me to THIS church!  Tony and I would have loved it!

Guess it will have to wait till next trip!

Great shots, buddy!

The trip to the heavy water plant was fascinating!  What a GREAT story to read about, and then see where it actually happened!

You are a helluva tour guide, Svenn, even if you DO leave a few things out!!! LOL
