Benedict, Benjamin, Stuart, Jameson, Terrance, Alexander - nah, I cant think of any either!

Good luck with the name game.  Make sure it's one that will not sound odd once the child becomes an adult.

Carol (who named a daughter Teddi! ;))

She's named for my Dad.  His name was Theodore.

Her proper name is Teddi-Lee and now that she's an adult - she actually likes it.  Not so much when she was a kid though.

She should count her blessings - my Grandmother thought I should call her Theodora!   ;;D

What about Devon Alexander....and if anyone calls him a devonshire cream puff teach him to kick them in the shins  ;)

Boy names are always so much harder because they are either the time honoured standards or the newest fad.

Both of my boys Ayden and Alex(ander) were uncommon at the time they were named - then the name showed up everywhere in the 2-3 years following.  Have fun in your search...and whatever you do, DON'T consider the name Atlas - it took me 6 months to talk Clark out of that one!

Well, I like my name.  (My grandfather's name on both sides, and my great-grandfather's name.)

Be advised, however, that if you name him George you'll be setting him up for a lifetime of "Georgie Porgie"--which is invariably recited in a delighted, nasal little singsong voice.

Not to mention the "Curious George" and "George of the Jungle" references.

"Watch out for that tree...."

Yeah, I know.

You'd think that small children would be the worst offenders.  They aren't.  Mostly it's the bigger primates--the ones who superficially resemble adults.

Naming a child is a ticking bomb.  I'll leave the naming to others.

Best,

Curious George

If you want something really unusual, my sister and I (when finding names for her unborn son) came across an unusal baby name book and listed under boys were Anal and (my particular fave) Harshit...

My sons name is Cameron William.

Cameron is my husbands middle name and he hates it, for him. But I love that name and Shuan did not get a choice in the matter.  ;;D  William is after Shauns dad who passed 14 yrs ago.

My daughters name is Krishara Renea.  Krishara  means Winter star in old celtic.  She goes by Shara sometimes.

I likes the name Jayge for a boy as well.  Guess it might work for a girls name too.

Oh, I dunno...  Has a nineteenth-century Freethinkers sorta ring to it.

Could be the name of a guy who started a free-love cult in the Burnt-Over District of New York State in the 1830's.

My brother in laws name is David Richard.  Couldn't name him Richard because he had an older brother by that name.  I am partial to Theodore since that is my hubbys name.  My girlfriend named her son Jaiden and her husbands name is Jaran.  I think those are both a bit unique.  I like my boys names Anthony Leo, Joshua Richard, and Christopher Allan.

My wife is due December 9 - we're having  a boy.

Our choice was somewhat easy - Eugene Christopher.  Eugene was Sarah's grandfather, Christopher mine. Both died of cancer the same year.

I love the name Eugene, especially since it is not all that popular anymore.  Christopher is a favorite of mine, since it means "Christ Bearer."

Christian, Dylan, Andy, Steven, Ryan, Nicholas, Aaron...

I like lots of names which I cannot ever use to name my kids - I have to use Finnish names... ::)

Back in here parents can luckily get to know the child before naming him or her; usually the christening will take place about 2 months after the baby was born.

Hiya Clarence - somehow I missed your announcement - congratulations!

As mom of two boys (hubby and son) who were born in December I offer a word of advice.  NEVER give a Christmas/birthday present or party.  ALWAYS separate celebrations, parties, gifts and cards.  Gifts should NEVER be wrapped in Christmas paper.  Our family birthdays are all within 3 weeks of Christmas.  It's a bit of a hassle but it's worth the time and effort spent to make the birthday VERY separate from Christmas.  You wouldn't do it to a child born in June, why do it for December?

In our climate it is hard to give an outdoor toy (bike, scooter, swingset) to a kid in December.  So we made "half birthdays" for those types of things - at least while very young.

Also - wait for Christmas shopping until AFTER the birthday to see what the child gets from family members.  I can't tell you how many things I had to return because I found a good deal for Christmas early in the season and someone gave the same thing for birthday. . . . I learned to tell family NOT to get such and such cuz I already had it.

And thus endeth the sermon . .
;)

I'm not so good at the name thing, either.  When my oldest boy's wife was pregnant, we found out that twins run in her family.  I therefore suggested that if they were twin girls, he call them Shitonya and Pissonya.  Kenny thought it was funny.  My wife punched me - hard!  His wife, well, let's just say his wife was not amused.

I stay out of naming games, now.

Good luck in finding that perfect name.  Congrats to the other expecting families as well.

Thanks for all the great advice.  We have thought about the half-birthday thing - having birthday parties in the Summer instead of in December.  We will have to figure out the best way to do it.

But, I totally agree that they should be separate events.  The tip about Christmas wrapping paper is a good one for sure.

Glad I could help , Casey - this parenthood thing is a minefield!!

My son was originally due on FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH of December - we were sure he'd have red eyes and we'd have to name him Damien . . . . he sure behaved like the devil while I was carrying him!

My family has  a lot of December birthdays and we always celebrate each one of them separate from the christmas celebrations. There are 12 birthdays in december. Mine is december 30 and I always get my gifts on my birthday and those from Christmas and those from "Los reyes magos" (the three wise men). I love december!! :D It is always a full of gifts month for me!!! ;;D
