Title: He never told me
Post by assaultme on Sep 29th, 2007, 11:15am
My middle step-son came over a few weeks ago to ask me advise on his sport bike. He noticed my 02 bottle and commented that he uses 02 to abort headaches!!!

I said" WHAT!!!!!" Then I started asking him questions about his "headaches" to see if they were CH or migraines or what.
He described what I thought were migraines with some attributes of CH. He said he has had these since he was 18...he is now 28.

I said: "Damn Ted...why & the heck didn't you come to me for advise!?!?!?"
He said that he didn't think to ask me and he thought if he told his Mom, she would just think he was trying to get drugs from the Doctor !!! He has a beautiful girlfriend and she is pregnant with his baby boy !!! Yeah, I'm happy for them.

I told him he must get this thing under control. He has a very good job and new responsibilities to meet.

Understand that he has always been gun-shy about sharing his problems with others. His Dad abandoned him when he was a young boy. I had raised him ever since. His Mom just doesn't understand things like this.

Well, I went on the war path with him !!!  ;;D
I demanded he see my Neurologist immediately !!
He went to my Neurologist and got Imitrex pills (useless) and I am setting him up his own 02 rig.

I also demanded he come here and learn. I think he got the message. He saw my Doc and appears to have been getting better. I am trying to get him to demand Imitrex shots. My Doc. will give him a script if he shows the Doc. he knows what he is wanting and talking about.

It's all good in the end I think. It is just more testimony as to the value of this site and the good people here. Without it, I wouldn't have known what to tell him specifically.

Thanks and cheers to y'all.
Dave

Dave - job well done!!!!!

Now, why not invite both your step-son and his girlfriend to check out this wonderful site of ours.  They may gain even more - especially some great support.

You betcha Carol !!!!!

He will learn so much here. He's young and being a new Dad will be very confusing for him at first. But if he comes here, he at least wont have a bunch of extra unnecessary confusion to deal with.
Yeah, I'm pretty happy for the little bugger  ;;D

Regards, Dave

Ya know Dave if he'd gone to you six months ago you wouldn't have known what to make of it.  It must have been fate or God or whatever you believe in that delayed his disclosure till now - when you were in a position to understand and to help.  No doubt this further cements a bond that already existed.  Atta boy Dave!

Way to toss a line to him, quietly adrift on the open sea, Dave.

Good job, wife, new baby coming.  :)   Being onboard with you means he'll be able to enjoy that sport bike too.

You keep the beat going bro with a good ear.   ;)

I was a new dad when I was first diagnosed. A couple weeks before that first neuro appointment I sat and wrote out my will longhand. I thought I was a-goner.
