its chuga-swoosh, chuga-swoosh inside, and chirp, chirp, chirp outside.

For 20 years on this day my house has smelled like cake and treats and all things gooey. Sounds of laughing, playing, giggling.

20 years ago right now I was in labor. Little did I know that in about 30 minutes, I'd be holding the person of Hannah Paige, a perfect cherub. Little did I know that she wasn't mine to keep, but a free spirit I was supposed to share.

20 years of pigtails and rollerskates, hanging from tree branches in a dress, tears at a bee sting and images of hungry children in Africa. Girl scout cookies, threatening to beat up anyone who messed with her baby brother. Of first dates and makeup, Miss Flame, graduation, hating me the evil mom, broken hearts and homes, learning who we are as women.

Its my Hannah's 20th birthday. I guess we've always thrown those parties not for the one born, but to celebrate what God has given US.

This year, I'm listening to the wind in the pines, chirping crickets, and a thumping washing machine and hoping that my daughter, my beauty rose, is off enjoying her day.

Childre are ours only to the point that we are to make sure they grow up eoug to take wing and fly from the nest.

They return one day, wiser, and seeing how much we as parets learned in such a short time. ;)

Mom and I were the worst of of enemys in my early 20's but the best of friends in the late 20's and till she passed. My growing up and having a family of my own...look forward to her "A'hah" moment. It does't always come as soon as mine did, but it will come.
