Title: ICE (In Case of Emergency)
Post by cash5542 on Sep 20th, 2007, 8:48pm
This has been passed around lately. It seems like a really good idea! It's a bit wordy but worth the reading.

ICE Campaign - 'In Case of Emergency'

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its
memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these
numbers belong to our closest family or friends.
If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the
people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't    know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency?
Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign

The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of
contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the
number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' (In Case Of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he
went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE.'
For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3
etc. A great idea that will make a difference!
Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our
Mobile phones today!

Please forward this. It won't take too many 'forwards' before
everybody will know about this. It really could save your
life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

How about the cop takes your ID out of your wallet and sends a car to your address.....or they look your number up in the phone book?

It seems to me that they need to get you to the hospital before caring who to call.

But, thats just me.  ;)

Is that one of those archaic paper things that are obsolete before they even get into my hands?

ID in wallet.........90% of people have them, no?

Edit to add: Why is it that every accident victim's kin is notified?

I don't know I kind of see it as a 911 for emergency people to contact family members. If I was in an accident I would want them to head for an emergency room before going to my house or looking for a phone book. I do not have my phone number in my wallet, maybe I should. If next of kin can be notified then the doctor's can find out various medical conditions, ect. I walk after dark and carry my cell phone but no id. Maybe the answer is this as well as better id.

I made my own drug info card. Used a buiness card, pasted the info on paper and taped it to the card with that tough clear strapping tape.

Easier because I can't remember the dosages nor can I pronounce most of it anyway.

I actually have printed out a piece of paper with my best supporter's details and my mothers details (and also a request to let you guys in here know  ;)) so in case something does happen and I cannot speak for myself, it's clear who to contact. :)

I have a note I carry on me for registering in the ER...I realize if Im in the middle of a hit, I can barely talk...Im shouting out responses...and my info. is all the same anyway.

It's good to have both.  I don't have a cell phone right now...I know...archaic...but I don't.  I guess you can never be too safe.

ICE is a wonderful idea...and I will pass it on...thanks Charlotte.  I walk at nite too...try to keep my id on me because you never know...Jonny's right. :)

I carry a little hallogen flashlite when I walk though...does that count?  ;;D

I carry my flashlight AND I have my dog with me so I feel pretty safe but I do know I should carry some id.

My daughter has a medical bracelet and all of the id needed. She has several health issues. Most of you on the boards are good about being able to check into an er because of the health issues you have to deal with daily. However I don't have any health issues and can't remember the last time I was at the hospital. I think I cut myself in sculpture during college. Many people have the attitude it wouldn't happen to me so they aren't prepared for emergncies. I think that's why the ICE program is trying to get going.
