Title: What it is about the chicken soup... Post by sandie99 on Sep 19th, 2007, 11:44am ... which makes you feel so much better when you're sick? We made the best chicken soup I've ever had for dinner. It was simple and absolutely delicious. It did wonders for me; I've been down with some sort of cold for a week and I've had pretty much everything from sore throat to fever. We joked in advance that how can one soup do so much good that it could cure colds and flus, but this one surely helped in a great deal. Now the recipe we created is saved with the title "Eetu & Kasper's Best Chicken Soup". ;;D We had it with cheesy tea breads, which I had baked few days before. They're yummy, too. :) Sanna |

Title: Re: What it is about the chicken soup... Post by sldrswyfe on Sep 19th, 2007, 1:49pm San, I didn't read the link that was provided for you...but what I have heard is that there really are properties to help loosen mucus, etc. I know chicken soup is nicknamed "Jewish Penicillin".... My husband is a very, very picky eater...so I have to "sneak" ingredients into his food, I have a heavy hand with garlic and come up with creative ways to get him to try things...it's no easy feat...and disappointing for an Italian woman who loves to cook :(. When he was ill with a chest cold (he's very prone to respiratory stuff...he's what I call "schnocky"...meaning congested alot) knowing he likes pasta, I got him to eat double noodle chicken soup...and it really did help him. I believe there is a psychological element to it too. There's nothing like a steaming bowl of soup to soothe the soul... |

Luckily for the chicken, it was already dead before it got into my soup. ;) Our version of the soup had parsley, swedish turnip and garlic among other lovely things in it, so no wonder. :) Sherri, I'm a huge fan of the pasta. I did wonder adding some spaghetti also, but this time we wanted to do it without, because we eat lots of pasta otherwise. Sanna |
