Title: A question of taste
Post by PollyPocket on Sep 13th, 2007, 6:46pm
I'm fixing red beans & rice as a side dish for dinner. Hubby is having shrimp, I'm having salmon.

Because I don't eat the nasty ocean grubs, I don't know which would taste better with red beans & rice: garlic encrusted shrimp or steamed shrimp with old bay.

Which is it?

I'm a fan of garlic, but I don't eat shrimp either.  (Allergic)

But Old Bay and a touch of garlic in the steamer is good too?  Huh/  Huh?

Salmon with red beans and rice? [smiley=huh.gif] Spank!

Me thinks you know how to devein and steam shrimp, too. Takes about three minutes...no more. Built in thermometer....pink, done. They go well with red beans and rice.

Btw, I've seen that Polly chick in one of my magazines.... :-*

Of the two, I think steamed shrimp with old bay.

Red beans and rice is a winter staple at our house--slow-cooked with a ham hock, thyme, bay leaf, garlic,  and onion and served with distilled vinegar, tabasco, and lots of fresh-ground black pepper.

Yeah, the steamed shrimp....

Best,

George

Into a frying pan equal parts olive oil and cheap white wine, lemon juice, far too much crushed garlic and a dob of butter.  Add more shrimp than anyone's going to eat and just leave the whole lot sit.  Drink beer.

Ten minutes before you're ready to serve, remove shrimp and put pan onto a hot stove.  Three minutes before serving add shrimp.  Drink beer.

Lashings of chopped parsely on top and dump pan on table, no cutlery, just fresh crustly bread and a napkin.

Wash pan, drink beer.

shrimp on the barbie!  hmmm   Beer! Oh yeah!

Count me in!   pleeeeeze!

Sprinkle that shrimp with a little seasoned salt, and skewer it on the grill for a few minutes, and you'll never go any other way!

Ah, Brian, glad you're back. That's my recipe, too...except for the cooking....and, well, the cleaning parts.

Cheers, Mate!
