Title: My dog..... Post by DonnaH on Sep 12th, 2007, 9:24pm Plain and simple........I love my Beagle. She's smart, has a great personality, understands a lot of English, talks to me when she wants something, will do many commands and is the most loving of animals. But........she's a hunting dog.. Take her for a walk and she will roll in anything's excretions to disguise herself into fooling "whatever" that she is one of them. And then she can chase them when they allow her to get close enough. Squirrels have climbed to the highest branch only to pee on her from above. It's tough being a hunting dog. You chase your target but you don't bite it. You Bay so that your hunter can find the target. But your hunter usually is just taking you for a walk around the area and your instincts are all in vain. You sound like you were in a car wreck. You scare all of the neighbors and they submit complaints about you to the condo association. Your owner explains that you don't make anymore noise then the other dogs in the neighborhood.......who are actually barking at you who is baying. It s a viscious circle being hunting dog in the city. It's almost bed time. I think I'll go find my dog who will sleep at my feet because she loves me and I love her. |

Title: Re: My dog..... Post by chewy on Sep 12th, 2007, 9:39pm Beagles are cool dogs. Real characters. Typhoon Tucker chases seagulls off of "his" beach. Sits at the top of the dock and waits the whole time I'm out in the boat. Travels up and down the beach from cookout to cookout. Knows more neighbors than I do. Gives me dirty looks when he doesn't get what he wants. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v388/bgull2/th_000_00152.jpg Loves riding in the Jeep but dont stop. Starts barking even at a stop sign. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/bgull2/driving-1.jpg?t=1189647322 Most of all he just loves lying around in the sun being a fat Beagle. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/bgull2/Attachment.jpg?t=1189647417 He's just one cool mutt. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v388/bgull2/th_019_18A.jpg http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v388/bgull2/th_020_17A.jpg Not sure who owns who but I suspect I'm the ownee. |

Im not sure what your saying, but if your in a condo next to me and that dog is screaming......im pissed off!....Sorry. |

Title: Re: My dog..... Post by DonnaH on Sep 12th, 2007, 9:52pm The dog's not screaming in the condo. She's taking a walk in the park designated for dogs.....only going a little deeper into the wooded area nearby. I wouldn't like a dog baying on the condo property proper either so I agree with you, Sweetie. She is heard for quite a distance tho, but only for about 5 or 10 minutes per day. Does that sound bad? Am I wrong? Other dogs don't do this, but they aren't hunting dogs. They bark because they think they are big scarey dogs and try to intimidate you. |

Title: Re: My dog..... Post by chewy on Sep 12th, 2007, 9:55pm Tucker only barks when someone comes into the yard. Even if he knows you. He's asking for a cookie. |

Title: Re: My dog..... Post by DonnaH on Sep 12th, 2007, 9:59pm Chewy......do you have any area with squirrels or rabbits? Doesn't Tucker ever hunt? I guess he wouldn't if the opportunity wasn't there. The squirrels taunt and chatter at Polly and she responds. How do you keep a hunting dog quiet when they are doing what they were bred to do? |

Title: Re: My dog..... Post by chewy on Sep 12th, 2007, 10:05pm Squirrels: Yard full of them. They run all around him and he barely bats an eyelash. Might scare one when he snorts and snores. Rabbits: 3 of them at my sisters house. Lost the youngest one in the kitchen one day. Found him sleeping next to Tucker on the dog bed. Tucker only hunts down cheeseburgers. |

Title: Re: My dog..... Post by DonnaH on Sep 12th, 2007, 10:22pm I guess I have a fox hound then. She has gotten kind of tall for a Beagle. LOL. |

Title: Re: My dog..... Post by Sean_C on Sep 12th, 2007, 10:35pm Don't worry about what the neighbors think Donna, if they give you a hard time, its ok to politely give them the finger when you see them ;) Beagle on I say ;;D Sean................................ ;;D |

Title: Re: My dog..... Post by DonnaH on Sep 12th, 2007, 10:52pm Thank You Sean!! I was getting pretty down until you came along. My neighbors can break the rules while I'm afraid that my dog will become a problem. Five or 10 minutes a day doesn't seem excessive to me. Chewy......thanks for the neat pictures of Tucker. Jonny......I'm glad I'm not your neighbor, but I love being on the net with you. You crack me up with your straight-forwardness and lack of care about what other people think. Or maybe it is just about you thinking like a King. Whatever......FU very much. |

Title: Re: My dog..... Post by ski2k on Sep 12th, 2007, 11:33pm 5 or 10 minutes a day is not a problem. I hate the ones that people leave outside all night to bark their ass off at every star or cloud they see in the sky. I had a Siberian Husky, and she was the love of my life. She only barked when she was done going potty and wanted back in, and would only howl when I started it. If your baby isn't barking constantly, then forget about it. I'm sure your neighbors knew dogs were allowed there when they moved in, and they moved in anyway. That's just common sense to most people. F them if they don't like it! There's plenty of places they can go where dogs aren't allowed. Adam |

I am with you ...my neighboor behind us has one like that...fricking thing will not stop barking, it started at 11 pm and ended about 5 am...the third night my husband went and told them to shut him off and they have to put him at night in the garage... the dog used to live inside but they said he got too big and they kick him out and the dog is scared of the night ::) I have two dogs (blue heelers) and the male only barks if he sees other dogs running lose or if he hears someone outside the fence, the female is to lazy to bark :D Donna, your doggy only barks for a few minutes, don't put attention to your neighboors ... Hugs Rosy. |

Title: Re: My dog..... Post by Paul98 on Sep 13th, 2007, 6:02am I miss my beagle something rotten. I've had loads of other dogs including a retriever who was the smartest, funniest most lovable dog I've ever known but nothing worms its way into both mine and my kids hearts like a Beagle. Jasper loves all dogs and so do Brid and Barney and they would be happy if I brought home a three legged scabby mutt of any type but they would always really want another Beagle. Yes the baying can be loud but it's a proper dog noise and to me, less irritating than barking. Ron did both and my neighbours used to laugh hysterically at him baying, he sounded like his batteries were wearing out the daft dog! One day - I will have another Beagle. Til then I'm just having therights to a claim over Chewee's and Donna's dogs! ;;D Helen |

Title: Re: My dog..... Post by Charlie on Sep 13th, 2007, 7:58pm I had a beagle when I was 5 but he didn't last. Dad had them and a host of moronic Bassetts....Jiggs would take off at the camp and come back three days later beat up and looking like he fought off an alien invasion. God I bet he had fun.
