Is there going to be a response from the BoD?
If a decision hasn't been made yet, is it possible to learn which proposals have been submitted? When will a decision be made?

Do we have any say in this?  Who decides?  What's the procedure?

Let's say we wanted to have it in Billings, Montana?  What do we need: an airport, hotel or camp ground, paved roads, indoor plumbing?

From what I understand, there is an application form on the OUCH website that you need to fill out, and you have to be willing to be the local host. It also helps if the local airport is an international airport as there are a number of people who attend from overseas. There also needs to be a hospital nearby.

None of this is official - just what I remember from my conversations with board members.

From what I understand, there were procedural questions asked by possible hosts that were never answered by anyone at OUCH. Also, questions concerning things like Bill mentioned, which were not answered. So, it appears one place won't have it.

Where will the convention be in 2008? Will there be one?

Nani, you're absolutely right!  We’ve been remiss in not keeping all of you posted on the status of selecting the next annual O.U.C.H. Convention Site, and Bill, thanks for pointing out to folks that there’s a form needed to make venue nominations.

Many of us on the OUCH Board of Directors have been wrapped tightly around the axle on a project of tremendous importance to cluster headache sufferers everywhere.  I’m sorry I can’t go into more detail until we clear the bar by getting some pressing legal matters in order and obtaining a key commitment, but trust me, I don’t BS on important matters like this, the news will be very good and well worth the wait.   I expect to be able to provide you with information on this important O.U.C.H. project in a week to 10 days.

The Board of Directors is currently reviewing bids for the 2008 Convention.

If you feel strongly about nominating a particular venue, please go to the following URL:

http://www.ouch-us.org/gatherings.htm

Go to the bottom of that page, copy and paste the operable section under the heading “Want to Host an O.U.C.H. Convention?” in an email, fill in the blanks and submit in a post on the O.U.C.H. site or in an email to me <pete.batcheller@verizon.net>.  Make sure your location meets the criteria posted in the above link.  Above all, we cannot consider any nomination without a commitment, by name, for an O.U.C.H. Convention Host.  Saying I like "Hawaii" or "San Diego" or some other city is all well and good, but just saying that doesn't cut it, or make it happen. Volunteering to be a Convention Host is a critical, time-consuming job that carries significant responsibilities.  We will make a decision by the end of September and I will notify all of you as soon as that decision has been made.

Take care,

V/R, Batch

Nani,

Yes...  I'm on the Board of Directors...  I thought the word of my selection last April was announced.  If it wasn't for some reason, it was a minor oversight as I've obviously been allowed to operate in a "Stealth" mode so to speak, and we're making progress on several fronts.

Take care.

Oh, I see.  I, as many other OUCH members, cannot host-no international airport in my case.  So if we cannot host do we not have any say in the location?

Don't get me wrong-y'all would have a real goat-rope on your hands if each individual member of OUCH had an equal say in this.  Shoot, it's hard enough to get four clusterheads together in one place at one time.

Except here-thank you Deej!

PFDAN y'all,
kathy

Title: Re: Convention 2008
Post by alienspacebabe on Sep 18th, 2007, 5:41pm
Kathy - Just my thought on this.... Say the convention is hosted in Portland, Oregon. Someone flying from Europe would not fly directly to Oregon but would have to go through customs in another airport. By doing that, an international airport isn't really required. I'm not saying this is what the OUCH BoD means - just my take on it as a former convention host.  Lizzie

Title: Re: Convention 2008
Post by purpleydog on Sep 18th, 2007, 5:55pm
Liz, what you are saying is correct. If the local airport was not an international airport, with customs to pass through, the person would make a stop at the closest, or most direct airport with a connection to the local airport. Portland Airport, PDX, is an international hub for several airlines, and you must pass through customs there, if flying in from outside the USA.

Good example though.  :)

I am sorry, but why would someone flying to Portland, Oregon from Europe have to go to another airport first?

Because most flights from Europe don't go directly to the west coast.....

and i based my info on the Portland airport on a prior post someone made.
