My sons and daughters schools are all holding a two minute silence at 2pm tomorrow GMT. That was the time of the first news program it appeared on here and the point at which I first saw it. It's a day of terrible memories for all of us. I can honestly say it was one of the darkest days I have ever lived through and I was in bomb scares glaore from the IRA as a kid growing up in London. I was in Harrods when it was bombed and I was in London with my children on 21st July and caught up heavily right where two of the bombs went off. I've lived with terrorism first hand. I will never bend. I'm flying tomorrow to Charlotte then La Guardia and finally Syracuse. I shall be sticking two fingers up at Al Quaeda all the way. I'm glad I have the chance to show they will NEVER make any day a day we dread - only one we remember and have justice for. Helen |

Ironically, it was at an Israeli-owned security company. After the interview, I flew to Boston where we were finally opening our new Jazz bar (Limbo). Our opening night was supposed to be Tues, 9/11. we had sent out 200 invites to press and food critics, and we had 400 confirmed responses. There was a great buzz about the whole thing... My good friend Daniel Lewin (CEO of Akamai) told me he was flying to LA the next day and was going to miss the opening... he wished us good luck. That was the last time I spoke to him. I woke up on 9/11 in my friends house in Back Bay. He has no TV or radio (by choice). My cell phone was off. As soon as I turned it on, I saw that I had 8 new voice mail messages, but even before I could dial out to get them, I had an incoming call. That's when the world changed for me. Screw the restaurant. Screw the new job. We cancelled the opening festivities (of course). I was smart enough immediately go get a rental car (the last one at Hertz in downtown Boston) and 3 of us started driving across the country. I dropped my friends off in Boulder, Colorado, and drove on to San Francisco. It was along the way that I found out about Danny being in that first plane that crashed into the towers, leaving behind two toddlers. Life is strange... Danny had just made a Billion (with a B) dollars taking Akamai public, and now he was gone. Ouch. I'll never forget that drive from Boston to San Francisco. Nothing (I mean NADA) was flying in the sky. You never realize how much you come to expect seeing moving objects in the night sky. It was erie. So many people were on the road that there were no hotel rooms available anywhere... we just took turns driving. We bought a worm from a vending machine in Illinois. Never done that before... saw it and had to buy it just to be able to say we did that. Fritz suffered a horrible fate on the dashboard... don't ask. It smelled bad. I think many of us will have that day etched in permanent memory. Thank God for that. Never forget. |

People cheering the deaths. Heres what slays me: Some innocent woman sitting at her desk at work deserves to be smashed to death cause you don't like her Govt. or lifestyle or religion or whatever !!!! Scuse me for passing judgment, but thats gotta be the most insane rationale I can imagine !!!! There are a lot of things that other Govts. as well as ours do that I don't like, but there is absolutely no excuse to wipe out innocent people....then rejoice about it. It takes a sick person to think this way. Further, justifying it by saying those innocent people deserved it because they are citizens of the country you don't like......that is like beating up your neighbor Bob because you don't like the company he works for.
