Title: Northeast travel info needed Post by BobG on Sep 7th, 2007, 4:55pm The wife's family plans to visit (drive from Nevada) the northeast states in October or November. When is the best time? What's the best to see? We're talking about probably Mass., New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, New York (the state, not the city) Penn. and points in between. |

Title: Re: Northeast travel info needed Post by Kingjames1 on Sep 7th, 2007, 5:45pm Bob-They have to catch that area in the peak of fall color...beautiful, especially to desert folks. They aren't used to seeing the leaves change, unless they are northern transplants. My guess would be the first week in October, but someone from up there will be able to tell you better. Hope they have fun :) |

Title: Re: Northeast travel info needed Post by Linda_Howell on Sep 7th, 2007, 5:52pm Bob, as for the points in between, make sure to tell them to go through Kentucky. It is the most beautiful state I've ever been through, bar none. Linda |

Title: Re: Northeast travel info needed Post by cash5542 on Sep 7th, 2007, 11:20pm Sean , that picture is gorgeous! I took my Girl Scouts cabin camping in Upstate New York several years ago, third week in Oct. It was so beautiful, colorful leaves reflecting on the lake. The days are still pretty warm and the nights are cool. The lack of rain may affect the color a bit this year. Lisa went to college in Lancaster, PA and the drive there was so beautiful in Oct. Rolling hills and many amish farms and shops. Just don't come on Sunday, everything is closed. You can also google the chamber of commerce and get activity schedules. This time of year has many festivals and craft shows, even hot air balloon rides! Charlotte |

Title: Re: Northeast travel info needed Post by mcf69 on Sep 8th, 2007, 12:09am Being a native Adirondacker I'm a little partial to our fall colors. The best trip would be from Central NY up through the park, back down the Seaway Trail to the Thousand Islands, all of course in peak leaf season. Here's a link to the Adirondack maps and some guides: http://adirondackfallfoliage.com/ |

Title: Re: Northeast travel info needed Post by LeLimey on Sep 8th, 2007, 4:04am I've only een the Adirondacks in summer so far (soon to be changed!) but its the most beautiful place I've ever been and I'm longing to go back. I can't recommend a trip there enough. |

Title: Re: Northeast travel info needed Post by ski2k on Sep 8th, 2007, 7:10am If I had to plan the trip, I'd probably start in northern Wisconsin in Mid-October, through the U.P. of Michigan (I'm from the lower penninsula and have been to the U.P. a lot), then east from there. Michigan's U.P. isn't overpopulated, and there's a LOT of wilderness to see. If you can put up with Canadian gas prices, check out Nova Scotia. Gorgeous there just about any time, and if you find yourself in Maine, it's not too far away. Just my [smiley=twocents.gif] . Enjoy your trip! Adam |

Title: Re: Northeast travel info needed Post by DennisM1045 on Sep 8th, 2007, 7:41am The only thing I'll add is that October hotels/b&b bookings in NewHampshire are tough to get. Most place will already be getting full. You'd better move fast our they'll be sleeping in your car. Have a great trip. -Dennis- |

Title: Re: Northeast travel info needed Post by BobG on Sep 8th, 2007, 1:45pm You all are wonderful. ;) Thanks for all the replies. I'll check on all the suggestions. The wife and I are trying to talk her family into flying to Boston or Bangor. The drive across country just takes too many days, probably 4 days at 600 miles a day. Then the same to return. Way too much windshield time for me! |

Blue Mountain Lake is a beautiful thing....probably the prettiest as well as Lake Placid. If the Mount Washington Cog Railway, in New Hampshire still runs, it's worth the trip. Chilly on top. Charlie |
