In fact, a month ago when I started having a lot more problems with the CH, the NP wrote me a prescription to take it at night. While it can have a lot of side effects (and I've experienced some pretty nasty effects with this at various times I've received it), it also sometimes buys me an entire night's sleep pain free. So - I'll be one to say that it's one of the few things that has helped me when in desperate need of relief! |

I'll guarantee that if you get a dose big enough, it WILL cause you physical AND mental problems. I know you're a nurse and all, and I'm sure you know alot about medications ... but I speak from experience .... If you're taking Thorazine, you're playing with fire! It can screw you up and give you memories that you will never forget! Do you know what they originally prescribed this for? They gave it in sanitariums to keep the patients as zombies !! NO JOKE !! Post by Lotus on Sep 7th, 2007, 8:21am One of my friends who was diagnosed with major depression was put on this drug by his psychiatrist and plunged so far into despair that he committed suicide 2 months later. His son said that he was totally off his mind while taking this drug, he couldnt think logically and couldnt even hold a conversation longer than a couple of minutes. |

I watched both the immediate effects and long term, of people that are on Thiorizine as a daily med. The immediate...the patient was forced to take it. He was "agitated", more like angry due to be instigated by a patient. The staff immediately went for the the Thiorizine...he had a choice of taking it orally in a drink..a LARGE glass...if he refused that, well he would get an injection. This WAS A KID for God's sake. He succumbed to drinking it. He crawled...if you could call it that...more like drug himself on his side to the bathroom...where he preceded to vomit violently...it get's worse, but I'll spare the details. I was put on depakote by Jefferson...started at a low dose. I completely lost my personality...and became a zombie. I had a friend drive me to the pharmacy, and struggled to ask the pharmacist if this would improve...i.e. if I would adust to it. He said, "NO" it will get worse as the dose increases. I went home and flushed them down the toilet. From what you are saying, Depakote is like taking a placebo compared to Thiorizine. NEVER. A FIRM NEGATIVE. Im sorry you had to experience that hell...stuck inside of your head and body...it's going to get better. Sherri |

The first time I received it, my mom had to stay over at the hospital with me. I woke up having some sort of night terrors - but then was yelling and screaming about things. It was horrible. As I said, I have seen the horrors of this drug. I have had to take other meds to combat the side effects of this drug. HOWEVER, now when I've been given it, it's been at a lower dose that basically helps more than hurts when I really need it. When desperate, I'll do whatever helps me.... |

After the bright lights in the ER, the pupil reaction test (another light), all the basic neruo tests (sqeeze my hand, push against my hand, etc), they gave me IV thorazine. Then they let me drive myself home. I don't remember the drive home. I went to my wife-to-be's place and she put me into bed. I fell out a few times, but did not wake up. 18 hours later I woke up with a heck of a hangover. Ain't no way I'll ever let them do that to me again. Ray |

I've had Thorazine before at lower doses and not had such the effects ... but this time I had a horrible experience with it. It truely was a nightmare I will never forget! :'( I see NO use for this in the treatment of cluster headaches! At high doses, this is NOT going to help or stop a cluster headache IMO. It will however help others around you ... they won't have to hear you scream because you won't be able to (for awhile). You're brain will be cut off from your body! If you are not currently having a psychotic episode, it may produce psychosis, according to a psychiatric doctor I spoke with today from Wellstone of SO. IN. ... he stated what I most likely experienced was an 'allergic reaction' from the med simply because I'm NOT psychotic ! So ... after all that's been said ... I'll restate it for those of you that might have been offended ... I will never do this drug again, and I hope none of you will either (for the treatment of cluster headache). Goodluck ! UNsolved |

I was in a headache clinic in Houston (before I left I told the doc he was a KOOK and a few other unladylike things!) and he put me on thorozine and it was awful. AND this was a "world renowned neuro!" Yeah right and a kook to boot! Back in the 50s and 60s they gave the stuff to drunks coming off a binge to get them over the dts. Oh hell, let's face it -- we hurt so damn bad we'll try anything they throw at us. I look back at some of the stuff I've taken (including thorozine) and cringe. and if I just had the money I've spent on meds, I wouldn't even need to win the lottery! :( Hugs BD |
