Title: A Little Pandemonium Post by George_J on Sep 6th, 2007, 10:32am ...and a bloody lip. At 3:30 this morning, we were woken up by considerable hell-raising from Ellen's chicken coop. Something was trying to get in, and the chickens were objecting. In the process of rousting myself, one of the cats decided to use my lip as a launching pad to boost herself up to the window to see what the heck was going on. A cat's just got to know these things, you understand. After pasting a tissue to my lip and hunting up a flashlight, I opened the door. Whatever it was had managed to open the door to the chicken coop, and a chicken was waiting at the back door. It shot inside the house to find a place to hide. Can't say I blame her. So before I went to see what was happening out there, I had to chase a chicken around the house and shove her under my arm. Armed with a flashlight and a chicken, I went to do battle with the midnight marauder. Nothing. Whatever it was (probably a fox) had lit out. Everybody was stirred up, but no one was injured, except me. I'm fortifying the door to the chicken coop this morning in order to render it impregnable to fox-kind. No more of this late-night brouhaha. I'm getting too old for it. Like I said, probably a fox. If my flashlight had shown the eyeshine of one of the cougars that occasionally wander in from the foothills around here, I believe I'd have allowed him to have a chicken, and welcome to it. Best wishes, George |

I almost spit out the water in my mouth when I read the part about you having the chicken under one arm and holding a flash light! That's a good laugh! Thank you for sharing! Edited to add: Glad that everyone is ok! |

Title: Re: A Little Pandemonium Post by Callico on Sep 7th, 2007, 9:51pm Funny! reminds me of the old Jerry Clower story of Clovis Ledbetter being late to school because of plucking chickens. It seems a fox got in the chicken house and Pa Ledbetter went out there with a double barreled shotgun and the dog cold-nosed him under the night shirt. So they were plucking chickens. ;;D |
