Title: Re: Don't you miss me???????? Post by kayarr on Sep 5th, 2007, 12:06am REE, I was just thinking "where in the heck is that young woman and why in the heck would she get a dog?". I am so sorry things are hard. One of the daughters dogs had to have a pin in his leg and 1500.00 worth of surgery and she is fine, limps when it's cold and when she plays too hard but fine. Hugs to you my dear and that wonderful family of yours. Kimberly |

Title: Re: Don't you miss me???????? Post by Ree on Sep 5th, 2007, 12:27am Thanks Kimmi... see I knew you would make me feel better... I hope we don't have to do the pin. The vet said Thousands of dollars for the pins... We opted for the splint and hope for the best... He hops around on 3 legs with his leg back like a wing... very cute. I'm off to bed... I hope you are right... love ree |

Title: Re: Don't you miss me???????? Post by Mastifflvr28 on Sep 5th, 2007, 1:46am $1000 for a SPLINT?? That's IT, just a SPLINT? Dang...did you have it done at a board certified orthopedic place or what? I think we charge around 300$ for a splint, with the anesthesia etc. Probly around 800$ for a pin. If Toby stays off that leg with the splint...like he is when he holds it back like that...then it should heal up just fine!! Small dogs are amazing...they heal real good...and he's still really young, right? So that just gives hime MORE healing power! :) Have fun with him, he'll do great. Just make sure he doesn't jump off the couch or out of Breezy's arms anymore, LOL. Love ya Nana Ree Ree and you KNOW I always miss ya :) Mast |

It only works so well for me 'cos I'm on a different time line to all of you. How are Breezy, the boys and the grandkids and Dave all doing? Its getting tougher every day with a 13 yr old girl in the house isn't it? LOL I swear I need to write on my hand "I'm the mother" to remind myself cos someone else around here certainly thinks I'm incapable ;) please tell me its not just me?! PS some pics would be nice too please please please!! |

Title: Re: Don't you miss me???????? Post by deltadarlin on Sep 5th, 2007, 8:23am Ree, Toby should be fine. I'm with Mast on this one though! Our cur dog, Gus, had both front legs broken and his whole vet bill (replacement splints and medicine) didn't total that much. He did recover and he's much older than your puppy. In fact, after a certain point, he learned to walk on his splints (vet was amazed). We couldn't keep him in the house and he didn't do too well when we tried to pen him up, so I got smart. Covered his splints in saran wrap to keep them from getting wet and then put socks over that to keep him from losing the saran wrap. Here's a picture or two of Gus while he was recovering. The pen that couldn't hold him (he chewed through the wire and woke us up at 3 in the morning hung up in the wire). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/DSCN0566.jpg With his *spiffy* socks on. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/DSCN0591.jpg 'darlin |

Title: Re: Don't you miss me???????? Post by john_d on Sep 5th, 2007, 7:27pm Hey Ree, Cute dog. I don't blame you, I would spend alot to help my two cats too, but they never seem to get sick or hurt. $1000 had too hurt though, ouch. That's what I like about cats, much lower maintanance. They even bath themselves. I bet it feels good to love him so much to spend that kind of bread though. I broke my leg when I was a pup, I was fine a few months later. Take care, John |

Title: Re: Don't you miss me???????? Post by Mastifflvr28 on Sep 6th, 2007, 12:41am crazee ree ree, stop worrying!! Unless he runs around on that leg constantly or jumps down hard on it, there is not much he will do to wreck the job. Sometimes they want to check the splint in a week just to make sure that things are going ok, and that it's not too tight and the dog is not chewing it off...or that too much RAIN DIDN'T get in it...like we have around here. Right Linda? :) And I wouldn't fire Dave yet...I have much respect for a person that can take a pain patch of a Pommie and not get bit :) (they usually are sore from the tape) Love ya Ree, chill out sweety :) Mast |
