Title: 2 Years Smoke Free! Post by barry_sword on Sep 1st, 2007, 9:22am Technically it is Monday Sept.03,2005, but 2 years ago today I put my smokes down and went out and bought myself some motivation to do this. I bought myself a new mountain bike and have not looked back. I was 2 packs a day for 30 years and quit cold turkey. No patch, no gum, just my will power to do this. Today is our local bike shops big Labour Day sale. I think I will stop by and buy myself something nice. I just wanted to share this with anyone who is considering quitting smoking. If I can do it so can anyone else. Thanks for listening. Barry ;;D |

Title: Re: 2 Years Smoke Free! Post by DennisM1045 on Sep 1st, 2007, 2:33pm Congratulations Barry! That's a tough road to hoe. I know this from personal experience. It took me two tries to kick the habit. That was 16 years ago. I had much better motivation the 2nd time drawn from my three oldest kids, 10, 8 and 7 at the time. I was sitting on the back porch having a smoke after supper like usual. They walked up to me as a group and asked me to please quit smoking. Said they didn't want me to die of cancer and leave them. Now I knew my wife had put them up to it (she still swears to this day she didn't) but that didn't matter much. It still cut to my very core. I haven't touched one since. -Dennis- |

Title: Re: 2 Years Smoke Free! Post by Redd on Sep 1st, 2007, 6:21pm Deepest congrats. Last time I quit, the beast morphed on me, nearly costing me everything that is/was dear to me, besides finally getting a clear Dx and finding this place. I have a bit of fear it could do so again. I want to quit again. But to honest I'm scared to death. I applaud the quiters. Some things are worth quitting...know what I mean? |

Title: Re: 2 Years Smoke Free! Post by barry_sword on Sep 2nd, 2007, 8:07am Thank you all for the words of support, it means a lot to me. I quit mainly because of my breathing and to get that elephant off my chest. The money played a big part also. We went shopping but were very careful on our spending. No, did not buy a new bike! Bought Angie some biking clothing and picked up a multi tool for on trail repairs and some new pedals for my bike. Thanks again for the replies, that was nice. ;;D Barry |
