Title: I knew this would happen once tanner moved there Post by zwibbs/Scott on Sep 1st, 2007, 5:46am Has a Mythical Beast Turned Up in Texas? AP Posted: 2007-09-01 01:09:48 Filed Under: Weird News CUERO, Texas (Sept. 1) - Phylis Canion lived in Africa for four years. She's been a hunter all her life and has the mounted heads of a zebra and other exotic animals in her house to prove it. Photo Gallery: Strange Roadkill Eric Gay, AP Canion, who has a history of hunting exotic animals, examines the creature in her home Friday. "I've seen a lot of nasty stuff. I've never seen anything like this," she said. 2 of 4 But the roadkill she found last month outside her ranch was a new one even for her, worth putting in a freezer hidden from curious onlookers: Canion believes she may have the head of the mythical, bloodsucking chupacabra. "It is one ugly creature," Canion said, holding the head of the mammal, which has big ears, large fanged teeth and grayish-blue, mostly hairless skin. Canion and some of her neighbors discovered the 40-pound bodies of three of the animals over four days in July outside her ranch in Cuero, 80 miles southeast of San Antonio. Canion said she saved the head of the one she found so she can get to get to the bottom of its ancestry through DNA testing and then mount it for posterity. She suspects, as have many rural denizens over the years, that a chupacabra may have killed as many as 26 of her chickens in the past couple of years. "I've seen a lot of nasty stuff. I've never seen anything like this," she said. What's Your Take? |

Wonder why three never-before-seen specimens suddenly show up in the middle of TX, and all three as roadkill, previousy unreported by any hunters or anyone interested in discovering a new species, mythically labeled now as an animal living in a modern day. So many documentaries are filmed looking for things like this, a previous uninterest in seeing or locating one is puzzling, even if as night hunters. I'd think Barb would have suspected something weird from that jungle she lives around. |

Look at what can be seen of the tooth row, and compare it to this: http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/Van308/images/80gDigHd2.jpg Dog nose, too, and the configuration matches a dog's head. Shaved dog head marinated in a bath of blue RIT dye? Reminds me of the phony mermaids people used to make in the nineteenth century: http://www.thefeejeemermaid.com/oldfiji4.jpg Best, George |

Hi Shari, http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/Hoaxipedia/Feejee_Mermaid/ There was a regular cottage industry in phony mermaids and other manufactured chimeras for a while. A lot of them were made in the Orient, for the delectation of travellers (and the profits that could be extracted from them). There are still a few "Feejee Mermaids" floating around (sorry). Best, George |
