Title: Good Deal Or Not? Post by barry_sword on Aug 19th, 2007, 7:44am We just bought this program yesterday mainly because Angie wanted a better movie maker than our current one "windows movie maker" that came with our computer. This new program also came with Adobe Photoshop. We paid $199.99 + tax, did we do ok? http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7d638b3127cceba19d26b097000000026101AZtGrZu5asU From what we have seen that this a far better program than we had for movie making plus we got a better pic fixer and organizer than our current Coral phot album I thought this would be a good place to ask about this stuff as you's have used it. We drove out of town to get the improved movie maker and thought the Photshop was a good bonus. Now, who wants to come here and show Angie and me how to use it? [smiley=laugh.gif] (JK) Thanks, Barry |

Title: Re: Good Deal Or Not? Post by UN solved on Aug 19th, 2007, 12:06pm I thought Photoshop Elements was an 'add-on' program or an upgrade to regular Photoshop. Photoshop is a great program, if you know how to use it. My son uses it but I know very little about it. It must be a huge program, because they had more than one class @ Indiana University teaching how to use Photoshop. Just guessing here --> but I think the photoshop program may be as much as $500 - $700. Have fun with it ! It's definatley a good program PF Wishes UNsolved |

You can get those programs free from 'file sharing' programs / websites like BitTorrent, Lamewire, and Frostwire. Many times you'll have to install the 'crack' to get it to work. If it's not done right, it'll never work. I expect them to put in a validation procedure soon to programs like Photoshop to stop ppl from 'sharing' these programs. Right now, it will work though ... don't ask how I know ::) UNsolved PS. There are TONS of tutorials for Photoshop on the web. Like I said, it's a HUGE program that you can do tons of stuff with. |

Title: Re: Good Deal Or Not? Post by Brewcrew on Aug 19th, 2007, 7:51pm It's the equivalent of burning copies of a musical album for a friend. It's the avoidance of paying the purchase price, which is split between all the parties that have a financial interest. It is NOT stirring up shit. It is theft, plain and simple. |

Title: Re: Good Deal Or Not? Post by ClusterChris on Aug 19th, 2007, 7:57pm and shrooms are illegal to do, now go on and post to everyone doing shrooms that its illegal! |

Title: Re: Good Deal Or Not? Post by Brewcrew on Aug 19th, 2007, 8:01pm I'm pretty sure they know that already. You wanna break the law? You go right ahead. But don't tell me that it's okay because everybody else does it. Moral relativism is garbage. Either hold yourself to a standard or don't. But don't tell me that it's or okay to cheat copyright holders out of what they are morally and legally entitled to. |

Title: Re: Good Deal Or Not? Post by Brewcrew on Aug 19th, 2007, 8:12pm Call it what you want. You're god damned right I'm gonna follow you around if you're going to advise people to steal stuff. If you stole your copy, you're a thief. If Barry takes a stolen copy from you, he's a thief, too. It's pretty black and white. I'm not a cop, so I'm not going to bust you. But I do like to know what I'm dealing with. And now I know what I'm dealing with when I'm dealing with the likes of you. |

Title: Re: Good Deal Or Not? Post by ClusterChris on Aug 19th, 2007, 9:55pm actually i guess it wasn't really in question form,(before you jump all over that too) I offered him something, in no way did I advise anything. I was actually trying to help somebody, you on the other hand are just trying to stir shit up for no good reason! you coming in here and calling me a thief is just to stir up shit, This isn't what this site needs nor was it what this post was about. If this is what it takes to make you feel like a better person then I am glad I could help you too. Have a nice night! |

Title: Re: Good Deal Or Not?.. Post by totka2 on Aug 19th, 2007, 11:28pm If you "get-for-free" a $ 1000 notebook, you are a f@cking evil-doer. If you download programs (worth $ 1000) from BitTorrent no problem. I don't understand it! :P |

Title: Re: Good Deal Or Not? Post by 1stdonna on Aug 19th, 2007, 11:29pm Imagine a software developer spends a great deal of time, effort and money to develop a new program that is useful. Someone buys the first copy in a store and posts it on the internet.....free for all. Everyone gets the free copy. After all, it's free! The software developer makes no profit. Doesn't even break even and either stops writing new programs or raises his prices for the honest people and puts in all kinds of annoying little tricks to make it harder for people to get away with stealing. Thank the thieves, next time you have to swap CD's just to start a new program on your computer...a program that requires the original disk in the CD drive, just to run. If stealing of intellectual property becomes to pervasive and unstoppable, creating the intellectual property will no longer be profitable and new intellectual property will not even get the chance to exist. Then we'll all be missing out. Even the thieves. |

Title: Re: Good Deal Or Not? Post by purpleydog on Aug 19th, 2007, 11:48pm There are people who write programs, for example, similar to photoshop, and you can get them for free. It's called open source. Go to http://freshmeat.net or http://sourceforge.net. These programs are free, and if you read up on them, the writer of the program may ask for a donation for his time, but these programs are written so people can download them for free, that's the whole point. They feel you shouldn't have to shell out a bunch of cash for programs. Such as Microsoft Office 2003- 2007. http://openoffice.org. But, if yer gonna offer a burnt copy of a licensed product, it's a good idea to not be public about it. And if you do get a burnt copy, that means you need a copy of a license. Which means generating one. And these websites are full of virii, malware and spyware. Consider these facts. If you got photoshop, and photoshop elements for $199, then that's a pretty good deal. Although "elements" has been piggy backed onto several other programs you can download. And you can get a shorter smaller version of photoshop for free from the website, but it doesn't have all the features of the one you got. Just be sure to RTFM, and you'll learn it in no time. |

Title: Re: Good Deal Or Not? Post by 1stdonna on Aug 20th, 2007, 12:18am My son is a software developer who works mighty hard for many months to write a good program and copyright it. Would you like to work months for reduced pay? Would you increase your sale price? Would your customers quit buying...because they can get your product "free"? Enough said about my sentiments. |

Title: Re: Good Deal Or Not? Post by barry_sword on Aug 20th, 2007, 12:33am I am one that buys my CD's from a store and my programs from stores like Staples. I do not like to get "burned copies" of anything. I get offered all the time from friends who offer these free copies. I choose to pay for my stuff. That's just me. Besides, I get a manual with the store bought copy and some warranty to boot. [smiley=laugh.gif] I take it that it was a good deal and I saw Photoshop Pro for $699.00 but the version I got is a big step up from what I had. So I guess it was a good deal, original question. Thank you everyone, Barry :) |

Ever hear of anyone making a cassette recording of a song playing on the radio, then copying the cassette and giving it to a friend? I guess it's all theft when it's handled that way.. I mean after all some artist is not getting paid for their work... and how about all these garage bands? Do you really think these darn kids ;;D are paying royalties to the song writers and artists for "doing a tribute" to them while making their first fifty bucks? I don't know.... theft is a terrible thing any way you look at it. with warm regards, Tony |
