Title: Not ch, but need resorces ! Post by LadyElaine1 on Aug 10th, 2007, 5:18pm My Mothers has six real bottom teeth, three are broke and they need pulled. She has a top plate that two teeth are broke on it, I have repaired it about 4 times now. I found a place after looking really hard, where she can get both a top plate and bottom plate for $400. I can pay for that no problem. The cheapest I can find to pull her teeth is $60 to $100 a tooth plus $60 for xrays. It could run as high as $600 or more to pull her bottom teeth. I have called everyone I can think of to find help for her. There is no dental help for the elderly in Ga that I know of. Anyone know where I might go to find help, with this matter? There has to be some help for elderly with dental problems out there. I can't get her food stamps, because she owns her own home. Every where that I have gone for help with anything, seems to find a reason not to help her. Please if you know of a org. that helps with things like this would you please let me know? Thanks |

Title: Re: Not ch, but need resorces ! Post by alienspacebabe on Aug 10th, 2007, 6:09pm If there's an oral surgery department at a local hospital, that might be a place to start. (My surgeon is at Froedtert, a big hospital here, and has many residents on his staff). $60 to $100 to pull a tooth sounds about right. Other than that, I can't help much. But good luck!! |

That sucks Elaine. Try again. I got food stamps and I own this dump. Also, my dentist lets me pay a little each month without complaints when I'm short. She's great. I noticed that our Resource Center here..ones that help people with all kinds of handicaps, has had some kind of dental tie-in that may or may not make sense. If some outside repair work is needed, it might be worth looking into. In any case, these people know of places to go for a lot of things. I bet you have one down there. A call can't hurt. Charlie |

I concure...but know this too...the students are supervised, and they work much harder to do a better job because they are graded on it, and can't pass if they do a pissy job. May take a bit longer because if there are any nerve issues or infections etc. they will ask more questions slowing down the service, but you can be assured they don't want to fuck up. |

Title: Re: Not ch, but need resorces ! Post by cathip on Aug 11th, 2007, 12:43am E, 2 thoughts. My daughter is in school getting her masters in Dental Hygeine. She is also involved with the local chapter of Dental Health Association. Part of this org is to help those who need but can't afford dental care. There is an outreach program, I know, because Dana spends her spare time volunteering. Look in your phone book for a local chapter of the Dental Health Association, and call them with your mom's plight. In tandem with that, again, open the phone book and see if there is a Dental School in your area. They do dental work on a sliding scale, and might take your mom's case in it's entirety. I'm sorry your Mom has this problem, E....I know it's one more worry for you. Please go for the help for her!! PF! Cathi |

Title: Re: Not ch, but need resorces ! Post by deltadarlin on Aug 11th, 2007, 10:16am Elaine, Did some research for you and here's a few links to check out. http://www.benefitscheckup.org/find_benefits.cfm Georgia Council on Aging http://www.gcoa.org/ http://aging.dhr.georgia.gov/portal/site/DHR-DAS/ I know there are a lot more places/websites out there, but it's been so damned long since I was involved in social services, I've forgotten them. These at least may provide you with more information on where to go. I don't know if you've thought about this, but it could also be a solution. Could/would your mother consider going ahead and giving the house/property to you kids? The law differs from state to state (this is done in a lot of cases to protect the home from seizure/sale when an elderly parent has to go into a nursing home) and you'd have to check it out. If I think of any more resources, I'll post them. Ah, thought of a few more. Is your mother getting any help from the Meals on Wheels Program (provide lunches to the elderly that are delivered on a daily basis~managed through the Council on Aging). What about commodities (where there is a monthly~usually~distribution of foodstuffs, such as cheese, peanut butter, flour, etc.)? If I think of more, I'll come back and post them, but the mind is not at full-tilt yet. Carolyn |
