Title: Woodstock revisted
Post by cootie on Aug 6th, 2007, 10:43pm
Good grief.....there's jus too many people in this world anymore........we went south to Columbus (actually in Dublin Ohio) for the cool Irish fest. Drove all that way down there after Brad did his family reunion ordeal and got out of there and me doin house/pet get ready stuff....bout a a two hour drive......we get to the hotel after makein a few wrong turns in this huge ass town drivein down the wrong way of a highway and they got our dates wrong ! They said we were supposed to be there Friday nite and had no vacancies ! The entire town was booked up. Lucky for us we were meeting friends that had a room and 'roomy'd' with them. Then we find out the shuttle is leaveing for the fest in 5 minutes so we dropped off our overnite bag and ran !!! Got to the fest which is a ways from the hotel.....and the place is PACKED !!! NEVER seen that many people in that huge of a scpace before cept Woodstock pics....I swear !!! Had to wait in long lines to buy tokens to get drinks.....hour wait to get a drink or food and we were starved !! Bathrooms had long lines also and only had them setup at each end of the fairgrounds ! We were elbow to elbow deep in strangers and baby strollers big enuff to need a license plate. I didn't like the crowd AT ALL.....your best bet was to stand in line for the bathrooms 'with' food and drink in hand and RECYCLE and keep goin back over and over........REDICULOUS !!! These events get bigger and bigger every year yet they don't seem to make better provisions. Couldn't get near vendors to look at jewlry, music cd's or cool stuff....no way ! I got overheated a few times and stood there dripping in sweat but got myself over it and thru it......no breeze or air moveing either there and it was around 90 with HIGH humidity but luckily overcast.....this place would make anyone closterfobic ! I spent half the evening in line to pee in bathrooms that were LESS then desireable if not down rite GROSS !!!! And ya had a LONG walk to keep going to them and battle the people ! The music was awesome but we couldn't even get near the stages but stood around listening in a crowd that just kept growing. Drinkin draft beer isn't my favorite but I didn't have much choice but we were there to have a good time and got a room so no one had to drive. Had to call a cab to go back to the hotel cuz the shuttle only ran till 9:30 pm and we were there to see 'Flogging Molly' which didn't start till 10:00pm. Gettin a cab was anouther story......standing in 6 lane traffic tryin to jump in one sucked and we got stuck waiting for ours for an hour or longer. Got back to the hotel and a car had parked in front of our friends truck and ran up onto the front of it and rested on the lisence plate and never bother'd to move and the people left it like that. So.....we had to wait on a cop sittin outside in case of damages before moveing it. I am still shocked at that crowd of people we got into........unbelieveable and I never wanna do that again !!! I'm just GLAD I didn't get lost or separated from the group cuz in a sea of people you'd NEVER find your friends !! Best part of the weekend was bein with our friends ! How can events keep growing in size and nothing else change Pam

Thanks for listening....I had a good time (um...kinda sorta ??).....just sort of MAJOR freaky with all them people !! Stopped at a mall on the way home and got a t-shirt at the cool Hot Topic store, couldn't get near the stage for one at the fest !!! It was cheaper too.......so that was a plus !??? (I love Hot Topic)

Pam, so sorry that things just didnt seem to go right for you.  You may want to right a letter to the city that put on the fest and let them know your experience so you can better prepare for next year.

part of  the great memorys of woodstock were all of the bizaar, the outragous, the ill planned, ill conceived parts of the whole ; not quite as anyone would have it go down...  stories to be retold forever and wisdom for future planning and the ultimate powerrlessness over outcome....i would not return to woodstock except in memorys........cherish the storytellers medium  phil h

That is a really good way to look at alot of things Phil...thanks for a new perspective.  Although, I know what you mean, many events and times in our lives, we'd never want to return to...except in memory. :)

Coots, that story is why I NEVER go anywhere but to the convention!

I have all the music, beer, porn and anything else I need to be happy right here at home.

If I had to deal with people like that I would be in jail for a long time!

Sorry I didn't mean for it to sound like a big boo-hoo for me expirience.....I just never thought a big family oriented festival at a fairgrounds in a big fancy town would or could be like that so I felt safe it'd be comfortable. This fest is actually gotten TOO BIG for it's area and too overwhelming of a turnout for them to even deal with or handle properly. The bathrooms were those little short bed trailers and only had TWO that I could find at each end of the event....they were about filled up to the seats when we got there at dinner time. No one was inside cleanin up and I felt sorry for little kids that had to go in there and hop way up on a wet gross seat and see that.....blech. (I'have seen worse tho I must admit)......trust me.....I have been to my share of BIG parties and events that were jam packed and full of wierd stuff, people and happenings but most were out in fields sumwhere or out of town. I don't like the HUGE events anymore that get that crowded and this one caught me TOTALLY off gaurd. Didn't see it comein Pam

I'm STILL tryin to recooperate cuz the heat got to me, not able to really eat cuz of lines and DRAFT beer..........I got invited to go to Woodstock but my folks said my bags would be packed if I went 'when I got home'......sum friends went but there van broke down on sum back roads miles from the event.
