Title: Needs must, as the devil drives. Post by George_J on Aug 6th, 2007, 1:16am Contractors are coming over tomorrow to measure for the new flooring--hardwood in the front of the house, and carpeting in the back. Before they get started, we have to finish the interior painting. We're doing the exterior in about a month. Getting a new furnace and air put in. I'm going to do the bathrooms too, but I figure the tub and tile and toilet and sheetrock and hardibacker and flippin' plumbing and such can wait until the other stuff is finished. There's always winter. I can only stand so much junk going on at one time. We're moving Ellen out of her small room into the whole back part of the house--we figured she needed a little lebensraum for the last couple of years she's living at home. Major deal there, as far as she's concerned. Much ambition, much buying of paint and choosing of futons and so forth. She's doing most of the work. It's going to look pretty cool back in there. Vivid, but cool. No, we're not selling off--just doing some stuff around the place we've needed to do for a while. Clumping it all together, because I want to get the disruption done as quickly as possible. I hate upheaval. Good thing I'm not in cycle. Ever notice that taking on a remodeling project is like getting married? You consent to the thing, and before you know it, all kinds of sh*t starts happening that you have little control over, and it just keeps rolling at you until it's good and done. :-/ Sorry. I'll quitmybitchin'. Doesn't help, anyway.... :P George |

Yep, and patience has a way of running short. I like remodeling and I hate remodeling. It's a long road, but the end result is worth it. |

Title: Re: Needs must, as the devil drives. Post by Karla on Aug 6th, 2007, 3:03am Sounds like you and I are following the same path. Except we are going to try to sell our house once everything is done and nice. We have done the plumbing since my Dad is a plumber and did it for free. We replaced all the toilets. We have some electrical left to do. We replaced our dishwasher. We have to paint and do the floors. We are going to put in wooden floors also. But it takes time to finance all of this. We just had over a thousand dollar truck repair done and with emergencies keep happening it seems like it will take forever to get this stuff done. |

Title: Re: Needs must, as the devil drives. Post by sldrswyfe on Aug 6th, 2007, 3:19am Hold on tight George. My parents had the house re-done when I was 19...oh my... There was no kitchen, the refrgerator was in the living room...not to mention all the guys on scaffolding outside my bedroom window...IN the house.... Keep visualizing the finished product. Good luck, Sherri :) |

I hate remodeling. I love having remodelled. Just like anything worthwhile, the process can be downright nasty, but the result is well worth it. In college it was "I hate writing. I love having written." ;) |

Title: Re: Needs must, as the devil drives. Post by purpleydog on Aug 6th, 2007, 7:17am I do like working and remodeling, it's the difference of opinions at the last minute... therefore patience. So, I like it, and I hate it, but yer right. I like the after effect, so I like having remodelled too. ;) LOL |

That's all I have to say about that. ;) You will love the results...so when the contractors tell you it's going to be twice the amount of time and money...keep your eye on the prize. Oh, and I had to look up "lebensraum"... ;) |
