Thanks for the tip.

I've let the parents of our toddler grandbabies know about this.

Yikes - I'm glad my little one is older now.

Unless they recall Ipods, bass guitars, or cell phones, we're in the clear.

pasting this from the mattel website:

Fisher-Price Toys with Lead Paint Hazard Recall

Our recall program does not affect your product.

Our greatest concern has always rested with the safety of the children who play with our toys, which is why we have responded quickly in an effort to maintain the trust of the families that have allowed us to be part of their lives.

Fisher-Price is dedicated to creating the safest and most enjoyable products for you and your family.  If you have any further questions, you may call Fisher-Price at 1-800-916-2235 Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 AM and 7 PM Eastern Time, and Saturday between the hours of 11 AM and 5 PM Eastern Time.

I got this after I told them that I bought the toys before may 1, 2007.

Ufff! at least I don't have to take the toys away from my daughter, she will fight for them you can be sure  :D

Thanks for the heads up!  We also have some of those toys, but ours are also older than the recall.  Thankfully!  My youngest son would have been really upset to lose the silly faces Elmo.

China Toy Company Head Commits Suicide
Lee Der Industrial Co. Ltd At Center Of Huge U.S. Recall

POSTED: 1:14 am EDT August 13, 2007
UPDATED: 1:32 am EDT August 13, 2007

BEIJING -- The head of a Chinese toy-making company at the center of a huge recall in the U.S. has apparently killed himself.

A state-run newspaper said Zhang Shuhong, who ran the Lee Der Industrial Co. Ltd., committed suicide at a warehouse over the weekend, just days after China temporarily banned exports by the company he ran.

Nearly 1 million of the company's toys were recalled by Mattel this month because of high lead levels in the paint.

The plastic preschool toys, sold under the Fisher-Price brand included the popular characters Big Bird, Elmo, Dora and Diego.

That tells me he knew about the lead paint in the toys, knew it was dangerous and still went ahead and did it.  If the Chinese govt. could have proven that he knew he was selling a hazardous product, they would have executed him anyway.

The chinese would have executed him regardless of whether he knew or not.  He was the head of the company, it was his job to know.  It was also his job to make sure it didnt happen.

Big difference compared to the USA.  Ken Lay was a wealthy, free man until the day he died.  Neil Bush was promoted to international banker after he fucked up the national S&Ls.

Well its the honorable thing to do when you've made a terrible business decision.

I'll pass the article on to my bosses. Count on it.  8)
