Title: computer question Post by nancyc on Jul 27th, 2007, 6:34pm If i wanted a computer that I could get a large screen for and run my satellite tv into and play my dvds, which would be the best choice? I have been dreaming about this for a long time...any help? I am computer illiterate about these things...Dell can try to sell you a $2000 computer that i may not need half of that. smiles, nancyc ps yep, still the dumb blonde LOL |

Title: Re: computer question Post by UN solved on Jul 28th, 2007, 1:23am If you're going to get a 'large screen' for it, I'd recommend a new Toshiba laptop, Media center edition, with Vista Premium. Make sure you get a tv tuner card for it. Save a ton of space, it'll already be set-up for an additional moniter or screen, plus have wireless portability. A pretty good system for about $750. I'm happy with it (so far) UNsolved |

Title: Re: computer question Post by john_d on Jul 28th, 2007, 8:21pm I've done it, I built my own computer specifically as a 'home media PC', ran my cable into it and even had a projector and screen. It was fun but I abandoned using it for that shortly afterwards, now it's just used for surfing the internet and playing some games. Sorry for the bummer review just thought you might want to know my experience. pros- It's really cool at first. cons- -The TV never looked as good as it does on my TV. It's because the quality of the PC screen is so high compared to the quality of the TV signal, the resulting difference in quality is really noticable. All the TV defects are really visible. -I could not find a video input card that handled High Definition signals straight from the cable. It has to do with the way HD signals work. -Windows has too many volume controls, it became very confusing. Between the app for watching tv and the software for watching DVD and the rest of the computer software, seems like everything had it's own volume control and it all worked differently. -I never found a really decent DVD player software that matched the ease of use and quality of a standard TV one. I tried most of common ones. |
