Title: Calling all computer whizzes!
Post by Kris_in_SJ on Jul 23rd, 2007, 7:54pm
Somehow - I don't know where or how - I picked up an Adware module, as well as something that looks like an exec. file that appears to be malware.

I tend to be a computer Nazi and run AdAware every couple of days.  It says it can't remove these objects:

C:\windows\system32\SHDOCVW.dll
C:\windows\system32\shdocvw.dll

One file in all caps - one in small letters.  I can't delete them manually - have tried from Windows Explorer.

Any ideas???!!!

Thanks.

Kris

If you google the file names, you will see they are both required parts of Windows.

Please read the info google provides before trying to delete them.

Thanks all,

I found the answer on an AdAware blog.  Seems they just had a faulty update that caused the problem.  Downloaded the newest update and all is clean.

This is a question I have wanted to ask since I've been on this site...but was afraid to for fear of looking even stupider...

It's about the "more smilies" function.  When I click  on it, and the window comes up, every time I move the cursor towards it...it closes.   I have to try many times to actually have it not disappear.

I do notice the at the bottom "more smilies"....and click on to it...it works...eventually.  Does this happen to everyone?  Is there a correct way to do this so it doesn't disappear?  Thanks in advance...in anyone responds.

Sounds like you may have popup windows blocked on your pc.  Could that be the case?

Karla,

How would I disengage that?  Where do I go...explain to me as if Im a five year old...I don't understand many terms...is that on the "profile" function?  Im not sure if it's me you're responding to...if so...is that the case?

I thank you for responding and for your much needed instruction.   Thoughtfully, Sherri

In my profile, I do have all the boxes checked to enable Pop-ups, etc....also I would like to have a picture different than the choices offered.

Is there a site with pictures...kind of like the one's Charlie uses...I have no idea how to "transfer" one...is the "cut and paste" idea??? And again where can I go to find a picture that's more "me"?  Again, thank you in advance, if anyone responds...I appreciate your help alot Karla.

If you have a picture you like (on your computer), let me know and I will make it possible for you to use it as your standard picture.  I'll walk you through it, it's easy.  Even easier if you know how to use email.
