Post by George_J on Jul 21st, 2007, 7:49pm
Well, Ellen just finished the new Harry Potter book.

She won't tell me anything about it.

My turn to read it now.   ;;D

Best,

George

George,

Glad Ellen won't ruin the book for you by telling anything about it.  Can't wait to get my hands on a copy but have to say that I am sad that this is the last book.

Enjoy!!

Pat got her copy around 1:00 this afternoon and she's about 2/3 done. And that was with a 1-hour break for dinner. Roy's got the other copy downstairs and is nearing the half-way point. Of course, he started as soon as we got home and re-read the last one in a couple of hours prior to starting this one.

Me? I've been puttering around the house while my GI tract gets back to normal. Oh, and taking a nap, too.

There are a couple of gifted readers in this house, and I ain't one of 'em.

No posting spoilers here!!!!!!! I'm only on chapter 2 because I'm getting slammed right now...to hard to focus even on Harry, but its making the PF times even beter....my mom walked in at the end of a hit yesterday with my copy....best moment ever!!!  I have a bunch of friends that have finished and they are posting spoilers behind cuts on their blogs and its so tempting to click but I'm being a good girl.  But hey I was 11 when the first book came out, that's a normal age to be reading this, yes I'm 22 now but I have to finish what I started....
Happy Reading!!!
Lisa

I'll be picking my copy up tomorrow.  Preordered it the day it went on sale (paid half of it's list price).  Jimbo will get to read it first as I'm reading another book right now.

I just finished it - it's amazing and I won't spoil anything for anyone.

Enjoy the ride - it's a galloping good read!

Now back to housework and laundry and cleaning and canning and gardening and all the other stuff I've neglected.

Jason, my bf - got a copy on Thursday actually!!  He has a friend who is a manager at a bookstore.  So he eread it until like 2am that night and had it finished by Friday afternoon!!  He's the fastest reader that I know!!!  I've made him promise not to say one word to me about it!!!

I just bought book 3 today.  I started reading the Harry Potter books when I was down the shore.  I knew Jason was really into them, and I've been wanting to get started on them.  I'm now a downright addict!!  So I basically skimmed the posts in this thread - afraid if anyone gives anything away from any of the books 3-7!!  I read the entire 2nd half of book 2 last night!!  When I bought book 3 today, the Borders was giving away free posters for Book 7, and I knew I didn't have a place for it, but I txt'd Jason to see if he wanted one, and he said, "Yes!!"  So I picked him up one!!

When he comes back from school next week, he's going to fix my DVD player and we're going to start watching the movies as I read the books!!  I'm totally psyched!!!

It's kinda funny because when these books first came out, I actually did work in a bookstore.  And because everyone else was so obsessed, I actually wanted no part in them!!  So for years, I've kinda been like, "Oh...  Harry Potter...  Yeah whatever....Not into it."  And now that I've started, I'm so hooked!!!  Jason warned me that I'd become addicted as soon as I started reading them, and he's right!!!  They're phenomenal!!!

I actually bought the first 3 books in paperback, and as I've finished books 1 and 2, I've left them at home for my mom to read - she's going to start reading them sometime soon! :)

Wonder how fast I can get through them all!!  I'm nowhere near as fast a reader as Jason is!!  But we'll see!!!  Haven't read this quickly or enjoyed it this much since I was a kid!! :)

Hugz,
Carrie :)

We picked it up yesterday about noon, and Meg staerted it first.  She took a break to eat dinner and then after everyone left, she and Dyl did dishes, and then she read untill it was "lights out".  She had the book finished by 12:30 this afternoon.

Dyls now 1/4 way through it.

Right now my husband is reading book six out loud (yes, with the voices :) )to my eight year old. Sitting at the same table is my 12 year old reading book seven.

The oldest and I were in the car on our way out for the morning yesterday and I said "I bet dad has grabbed that book out of your room and is reading it right now."
he said,matter -of-factly "no....I don't think so"

Four hours later on the return trip home I noticed he was very quiet....he had the book in the car!! LOL!! no wonder why he was so confident dear ol' dad wouldn't get a hold of it! :D (turns out my hubby spent some of the morning looking for it too!)

Register?! http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/biglaugh.gif I never did. I just "appropriate" the things to my pictures and set them up at my server's free puter space. Their addys sometimes expire so it's a good idea.

"Aiwan" or somesuch is the guy who animates so much of this stuff. The Russians seem to have the best stuff. Germans, too.

Hmm... I must be missing out. I've just read the page 1 of the first Harry Potter and that was years ago.
But then again, I haven't read Da Vinci Code, either, and I have lived happily inspite of that. ;;D

Know this is an old thread, but I don't care and those that do can kiss my ass...

On Thursday, July 26th, at approx. 9am, I began reading book 1.  On Friday, August 3rd, at approx. 11pm, I finished book 7.

Excellent series.  The best I've ever read! ;;D

Personally, I'm very sad to see the series end.

JKR came along with Harry right when we were searching for appropriate content and challenging literary fiction for a young boy.  My son grew up with Harry, so this series' demise marks a rite of passage for us - well, at least for me!

I've read and re-read and enjoyed them all a great deal and I will miss them.

I just finished it!!!!!!!!!! I've declared it the darkest, and the best of the series. I'm actually bummed I finished it, and I do hate myself for how much I loved them!!! (That little boy that still smoulders deep inside)....highly recommended reading~!!!!!

I highly recommend anything by  T.A. Barron.  He writes about Merlin and his books are wonderful. His books are designed for younglings to adult readers.  Also, in the fantasy realm, the early Xanth works by Piers Anthony aren't too difficult to read.  If you want more in the fantasy realm, just ask and I might be able to give you information on it (our fantasy collection is getting large now, at one time, we had close to a thousand paperbacks.  Now, we have over 500 hard backs in the fantasy genre, alone~which reminds me, it's time to catalog again).

Maybe it's just me, but I can't, for the life of me, see what all the hullabaloo is over these books. And no, I haven't read ANY of them. I picked up one in the bookstore and read about one page and was bored to death.

Guess that's just not my cup of tea but ya'll have fun..

Barb,
The hullabaloo about the Harry Potter series is that it got kids to actually reading and wanting to read.

I think the hullaballooo, or however it's spelled, is WAY more than just getting kids to read.  It's bringing the possibility of magic and miracles back to life inside our imaginations.  It's also showing that there's more to life than this mundane thing called "reality" and the almighty dollar.
