Title: Half way through... 5 down, 5 to go Post by DennisM1045 on Jul 10th, 2007, 10:03pm My son Casey graduated from High School this year. Saturday night we had a party for him. Casey is number 5 of 10 so we're half way there! We had an awesome time. I even managed to drink some beer without getting hit. Here are some pictures. http://picasaweb.google.com/dennism1045/CaseySGraduation2007?authkey=aV0y6Yy88VA -Dennis- |

Title: Re: Half way through... 5 down, 5 to go Post by sandie99 on Jul 11th, 2007, 2:48am Dennis, thank you so much for sharing those pictures. I just loved watching them. :) Congratulations to Casey! :) You know, back here in Finland, when your child graduates, it's a tradition for him or her to give the parents a little gift, a piece of jewellery, called lyyra (lyre) in Finnish. http://www.kultatahti.fi/kauppapaikka/images/apP-LyyraFIN.jpg And from that day on when the parents go to other graduations they will wear that lyre. :) Back here, if you have graduated, you'll get to wear the "white hat" at the day you'll graduate and from then on at First of May. http://www.cartinafinland.fi/kuvapankki/imagebank/18/18887_uploaded_thumb.jpg That lyre tradtion comes from the white hat - it has the similar lyre (although less valuable one) on it. Title: Re: Half way through... 5 down, 5 to go Post by DennisM1045 on Jul 11th, 2007, 9:33am We did have an awesome time. The party started at noon and went till 1:00am. You just gotta love a 13 hour party. Tony: my kids were all joking that night about each having 10 of their own so we’d end up with 100 grandchildren. So I guess that’d be 1/22 through :o Sanna: what an awesome tradition! So instead of spending $$$ on the party and a graduation gift we would have received a nice piece of jewelry? That’s it, we’re moving to Finland! On the other hand, if we moved to Italy ‘lyyra’ would get changed to ‘lira’ and we could just take the cash ;) -Dennis- |

[smiley=laugh.gif] Actually, it is a great tradition. :) We do have graduation parties as well (but usually nothing lavish; just family and family friends over for a buffet or just cake and coffee) and parents will buy a graduation gift (nothing big, though). Sanna |
