Title: What he did.......
Post by catlind on Jul 10th, 2007, 10:25am
Forgive me for bragging.....but I am very very proud - The AF picked up the story and this is the final edit - there is a strong suggestion that this will go AF wide and to military.com.

May common sense and training guide us all should we ever find ourselves in similar situations.

As a side note, the driver of the jeep was 16 y/o Elace Little, the passenger was her mother.  May she rest in peace and my Elace find comfort in the years ahead.

Tony, after the story came out and he read the sheriff's report, he did much much better.  He stills plays it frame by frame, but he now knows that the mother, the passenger who perished, was beyond anything his training could have helped him with.  It will haunt him for years, of that I have no doubt, but he is working through it with all the proper resources, and the report from the sheriff did wonders for his psyche.

I am trained with the RLSSC and I know there was nothing he could do for her.  But me telling him that, and him accepting it were miles apart.  I am glad I did what I did...I contacted his unit and send word through the command of his actions.  I know my husband andhe would never have spoken a word, and it was the best way to get him to understand his role and know that he did the very best thing he could possibly have done to help those involved.

I am proud he is of the fight and not flight crowd, I wish I could say the same for myself, although it's true, years of training kicks in before thought can.

Thank you for your thoughts Tony, you have all done more than you know to help this family through some very very trying months, this event not excluded.

I hope he finds some peace soon

What a story and what a soldier.

Makes you proud of our military. They are a special group and deserve more than our thanks.

Charlie
