Title: Re: How many suitcases? Post by fubar on Jul 9th, 2007, 7:50pm You are allowed to check 2 bag and carry on 1 bag plus a 'personal' item (e.g. briefcase or purse). I can go a whole week with no checked bags, just a carry-on and my briefcase. |

Title: Re: How many suitcases? Post by Jackie on Jul 9th, 2007, 7:51pm Tony... Check with your airline. There usually isn't a bag charge unless you go over the weight limit...I've chrcked 2 bags with no problem. Remember though there are strict restrictions for carryon luggage...liquids, gels, etc. See ya soon... Jackie |

Title: Re: How many suitcases? Post by Rosybabe on Jul 9th, 2007, 7:51pm ok, I know international because I just came back so, I know that for sure. two suitcases per person with no more of 50 lbs each, any lb over and you will be charge . Carry ons, one per person as long as it fits in the space above the seat or under the seat in front of you. Remember, liquids or sprays (they should fit in a small ziploc plastic bag, the liquids or spray should be the size of those made for traveling, think of those that walmart sells in the $1 dollar section.) Any shaving device should go in your checked baggage. scissors, clippers, etc. Hope it helps! ;;D |

Title: Re: How many suitcases? Post by Rosybabe on Jul 9th, 2007, 8:08pm I took with me last year a silverware set for a wedding gift and when I arrived I found that they had opened my luggage and they put a card saying that because the scanner had shown the metal they had to open and register my bag. There were a few pieces missing. I would think that the regulator and tools will not make to much trouble but I would stay away from carrying knives if I can avoid it. I had seen how they come and get people out of the plane because they have questions to make about the luggage. The person came back in the plane a few minutes later and we were allow to fly so I really do not know what the problem was with his bags. I guess I will bet on the safe side. ;) |

Title: Re: How many suitcases? Post by ClusterChuck on Jul 9th, 2007, 8:14pm How much space do you need? SHEESH!!! Leave the sequined red evening gown at home. We aren't that formal at conventions. But the black strapless is adorable ... bring that one. Chuck |

Title: Re: How many suitcases? Post by fubar on Jul 9th, 2007, 8:30pm You can pack anything you like in your checked bags... just be aware there is a list of prohibited items that will get you in trouble. They have the list at any airline web site. Here is an example list from United's site. Lighters Lighter fluid Acid Explosives Flammable solids/liquids Oxidizing materials Corrosive materials Compressed gases Poisons Etiologic agents Radioactive materials Irritating or incapacitating sprays Mercury Noxious materials Briefcases and attaché cases with installed alarm devices If you plan on bringing injectable medicines, you have to carry them with you and you *must* have your prescription or a professionally printed label with the phone number of the pharmacy. Obviously, since you're headed to the United States, where everybody is armed, you must bring your gun. The good news is the airline will let you check your gun (and 11 lbs of ammo) as long as you're nice about it and you tell them. |

Title: Re: How many suitcases? Post by artonio7 on Jul 9th, 2007, 11:24pm Wow... who'd a thunked it was all so involved? Thanks all. So I guess the whicker baskets full of vitels and "Porker" (for the surprise pig roast) is out of the question. :( with warm regards, Tony |

Title: Re: How many suitcases? Post by Racer1_NC on Jul 10th, 2007, 12:36am If you carry your regulator in carry on, expect to be pulled aside and questioned. It's not something they see everyday and it make them nervous. I got the same treatment in Charlotte and Moline...... YMMV |

Title: Re: How many suitcases? Post by sandie99 on Jul 10th, 2007, 2:28am Tony, it's great idea to check with your airline (and in some cases already tickets reveal it), because it varies a lot! When Timo and I went to UK, the directions said: 20 kg in luggage and then a carry on/back bag, which were certain size (clear size directions included) and a hand bag, which is small enough to fit inside the carry on/back bag. And we were also told that the carry on/back bag can weight 8kg. And then there is the liquid rules: 100ml size tiny containers only, not more than a litre all together and place them into a see-though plastic bag (for example Helsinki-Vantaa Airport hands those freely). I placed most of mine to the luggage and put my lipstick to the plastic bag just in case it was considered to be liquid one (I knew it wasn't, but I also knew that some officials are far too rule-happy). When I moved to UK back in 2001, I had to pay 500 then Finnish marks (that's $115/£57/84 euros) cause I had 2 luggages for 1 person (luckily they didn't notice that I had a back bag...). Luckily the Universe thought that the lady at the airport was being unreasonable, so when I moved back to Finland in 2004 and me and mum had a back bag, carry on, huge hand bag and large suitcase (88kg together!) they didn't even notice that I had bit extra... ;;D Sanna |

Title: Re: How many suitcases? Post by purpleydog on Jul 10th, 2007, 2:39am You can take one carry on bag (suitcase) and a personal bag. This includes laptops, so technically, you could take 2 carry on bags (suitcases). When you purchase luggage, it should say on the bag if it's carry on size. When flying, I would pack a suitcase, and then add whatever to my laptop bag, I always had plenty of extra room in it. I put one in the over head of the plane, and my laptop bag always goes under the seat in front of me. You have to put any gels, toothpaste, personal hygiene type items (if they are gels or liquids) in a zipper top clear bag, size of one quart. You'll have to take it out and put it through the xray machine, like your laptop, shoes, and whatever else you are carrying on. You are also limited to 3 oz conatiners for those items. Go here: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#1 This is the TSA's website, and will tell you exactly what you can take on board, and what has to be checked. Also, check with your airline as to weight allowances for your checked luggage. Keep all valuables and medication WITH you in your carry on bag. If you have an item you think they won't allow, look into shipping it ahead, like using UPS, or Fedex, or priority mail. Good Luck, and have fun!! |

Title: Re: How many suitcases? Post by LeLimey on Jul 10th, 2007, 9:10am Ive just flown in from the uK and then a conecting flight with tea chocolate shortbread coffee marmite bread jams and chutneys - shitloads of food stuffs and you do not want to see the meds I brought (well you do actually!) I have about sixty imitrex refills - the double packs, ten boxes of frova, dihydrocodeine, tramadol, codeine, all my sicko meds I have to take every day and it was all in my checked luggage as you try carrying that lot on the plane! no probas and both bags were tsa checked. I know its different but I just thought I'd mention it as I don't know if they were checked after the international or internal flight. ALL the meds had my name on them on prescription labels though so I'd recommend you leave any in their original packaging. See you Thursday WITH MY BISCOTTI!!! lots of love Helen xxx |

If you dress "Porker" appropriately and he is sufficiently small, you may be able to pass him off as a "lap child". His behavior will not be distinguishable from that of other small children I've seen on airplanes. Best, George |

Title: Re: How many suitcases? Post by Charlie on Jul 10th, 2007, 2:13pm So far we've been lucky. How fun will it be after some gumball manages to set his shorts afire rather than his shoes? It will be a different dance at the scanners. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/donutt cop.gif Lotta dogs would sign up for the work though. Hope all goes well. Charlie |
