Title: checking in.. Post by jwelch on Jul 9th, 2007, 7:10pm Made it to the right coast today. When we got to Kentucky a few days ago we stayed at 'Hotel Hendrix' and jimi and Ruthie showed us around their area giving us a very enlightening tour. Had my 1st. taste of Catfish and Hushpuppies too. I felt funny imposing on them but Jimi assured me that he'd read the book on So. Hospitality. lol (they have a gorgeous home) I just LOVED Kentucky.!!!!!! Drove through the beautiful Shennandoah Valley, over the Blue Ridge Parkway, saw a bear and 3 cubs cross the road, (a sight unseen in Calif.) and today we got into D.C. Never again...this city is totally unfriendly, hot, sticky, roads go every which way and are unmarked, traffic is unbearable and I couldn't wait to leave. I did, however go to the Viet Nam Wall Tanner, and I got a few pictures that you asked me to get, as well as rubbings of your friends names which I will send to you when I get home. Because parking anywhere in this city is prohibited, I saw the Lincoln Memorial and the Pentegon as we drove past. >:( Cathi and Jeff...I am so very sorry about your news and Elaine I am so happy you will make it to Richmond after all. I'm heading So. for Richmond in the morning stopping to see some Civil War Battlefields along the way. Linda Howell |

Title: Re: checking in.. Post by Brewcrew on Jul 9th, 2007, 7:26pm Linda and Jim, I got your message, and I totally understand. We'll see you in Richmond. You might consider a day trip to either Gettysburg, Antietam, or Harper's Ferry. The key to moving around D.C. is parking way outside (like Alexandria) and taking the Metro. Great public transportation around this place. Tomorrow it's the National Archive, The World War II Memorial, and the Holocaust Museum. Sorry your experience was less than that, but I can totally see where you're coming from. See you soon. We can't wait! Bill |

Title: Re: checking in.. Post by Mosaicwench on Jul 9th, 2007, 9:09pm Ah Linda - parking is a NO NO in DC - especially a motorhome. I'm sorry you didn't have a nicer experience. This is my third time here and there are some things you learn only by experience. The weather cannot be controlled and 100 degrees is just awful - anywhere, as far as I'm concerned. Looking forward to seeing you. Enjoy whatever battlefields you end up seeing - any one that you mentioned is exceptional! |

Title: Re: checking in.. Post by jwelch on Jul 9th, 2007, 9:22pm One thing I did get to see if only on the fly...is the Pentagon from all sides as we drove around the circle. One could plainly see the side where the plane crashed on 911. The cement at that side is a slightly different color from all the rest. very sad. :'( Linda |

Title: Re: checking in.. Post by Charlie on Jul 10th, 2007, 1:46pm Good to hear from you Linda. Sorry about your D. C. experience. At least you saw some stuff. It's been 48 years since I saw the place. Little different tone back then. I have a great picture of a turban-wearing bloke walking out of the White House.... just a tourist. Ike didn't worry. They are a bit skittish of late. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/scare white.gif Anyway, glad you got around over here. Good tour guides anyway. Have more fun kid. Charlie |
