Yay. But not too much. Laxative effect, you know.

One of my favorite drinks years ago (about two bands back) was a shot of Ouzo.

Anise - yum.

Ok. I hate to be difficult, but when you say "black licorice" which treat you mean? Back here in Finland we have two different kind of treats which both are refered as "licorice" in English speaking countries.

To us one of them is called lakritsi (which I would refer as licorice) and the other is salmiakki (which some also call as salty licorice).

And I dislike most salty licorices (they are too salty/strong for me) and the other, licorice, I like it but its not my fave treat of them all.

Haven't been to a county fair in years. Black is okay but I can't imagine going out of my way to get it for itself.

Yay to black licorice, especially if it's made in the true sense that licorice was used as a medicinal ingredient.

The anise has a powerful effect on the body, particularly if combined with other herbs.

Other than an evacuant, what are the benefits of black licorice?

The timing of your question is ironic Tony.  I got a box of "Jujyfruits" this weekend, I havent' had them in years.  I pick out the black licorice flavored ones...and eat one only after Im done eating the fruit flavored because of the strong taste. It will overpower the fruit after I eat it.

Yay...once in awhile though.

Don't care much for the licorice, but love the flavor of anise used sparingly in cooking and baking.

I am not going to be there to get any so go ahead and make black anus biscotti and screw em if they can't take a joke ;;D

Man, I finally get a moment to respond to posts and I start out being a disgusting pig ::)

hmmmm... gonna go spend a few hours with my baby and see if I can't recover my nice qualities :)

Love to all........Tim

;;D

Jennie Amabile's Fabulous anise cookies

6 extra large eggs
1 cup Vegetable oil
1 cup sugar
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp of anise oil OR 2 tsp of lemon extract
_____________________________________________________________
Mix all ingredients on medium speed in a mixing bowl. The dough is very soft.
If it does not hold some semblance of a shape  add a little more flour.

Cover and let the dough rest in the refrigerator for about 24 hours. Spoon the dough onto a greased cooking sheet and form loaves the length of the pan by about 2 inches wide.

Preheat oven and bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes or until a light golden brown.
_______________________________________________________________
Let cool before adding the icing.

The icing.

Powdered sugar, a little whole milk and lemon OR anise oil to suite your taste.

Refrigerate for a while after icing then cut into small slices.

enjoy.

* Caution... can be extremely addictive
