That's a lot of responsibility right there. No wonder they don't live as long as we do. ;) |

Ask yourself one question: Is she suffering? If you can't determine, ask your vet: Is she suffering? Your heart will tell you what you need to do. Your wife and kids may disagree, but you need to do what's right and serve as a moral beacon for them. Hardest decisions in life, these. |

Title: Re: Puppy (update) Post by cash5542 on Jul 3rd, 2007, 8:25pm We just put our golden retreiver to sleep a few months ago. She was 12 and more a part of my life than any dog I have ever had. One day she just couldn't walk. She wagged her tail and was very alert, just not mobile. My husband carried her up and down the stairs and I fed her. Someone at work talked to me about "quality" of life. Yeah she was alive and we could pet her but that was for us. From that point on I saw the whole thing differently. Talk to the vet and if he feels she won't recover then think hard about the poor pups life. Someone once told me it is the most unselfish, wonderful thing you can do for your animal yet the hardest on you. My prayers are with you |

Not good Cash shes now completely blind and still loosing weight. The Vet took some blood he wants to see if it's something systemic they still say it could be any one of a number of things.Originally they thought infection but they gave her a heavy regiment of antibiotics that didn't do much if anything at all.I wish I could report better news Cash.My little ones don't know the full extent of it just my older ones do.I'm not sure how they will take it when I have to tell them that Jade will not be living with us anymore.Well heres me rambling on thanks for your concern Cash and all who posted I do appreciate it. Title: Re: Puppy (update) Post by cash5542 on Jul 12th, 2007, 12:06am OK, I'm still seeing a glimmer of hope. The vet hasn't totally given up but it sounds like everyone is being realistic. Last spring one of my 4th grade students had to put her pup to sleep. I don't know the details but she had lost her sight too. She was handling it well. Her mom had told her how much the puppy was suffering and how they just couldn't put her through a lifetime of that. Good luck with the kids. Time will heal their pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. |
