We were biking on Sat. afternoon and I took this photo of my fellow rider Mark and when we downloaded it we noticed this white circle with a thin blue line around it.

There was no sunshine or rain that day which I know can cause some reflections. Angie says it looks like an "ORB".
I did not know what she was talking about so we looked it up online and it kinda looks like an "ORB". ::)

What is your take on this anyone?

My old camera used to have those circles like that on a lot of the pictures. I cleaned the lens, but those darn circles would still show up. Not good for ebay listings so I ended up getting a new camera. ;)

I'm pretty sure its lens flare. You do not have to have bright sunlight to create flare, just the right amount of contrast between light and dark (the dark is the trees, the light is the daylight). By coincidence of alignment with the source of light and the chip on the camera, you got a lens flare. Or you have a dirty mirror if its an SLR or a dirty chip. Or a dirty front/back element in your lens.

So it could be anything! ;;D

I enlarged the photo to have a closer look and I don't know what the orb is but look who is at the top of the hill........someone better call Homeland Security. Has he been in your riding club all this time???

An orb in a picture is supposedly a deceased loved one.

I am not really a believer in such things, however, several family pictures we take there seems to have been an orb which my wife likes to think is her grandmother.

I think it is sweet even if it is a dust particle or condensation.

Mike, no mirror on helmet or other shiny things on him on the right shoulder area. I will show another pic of Mark from the front and I do not see anything to cause a reflection.

Also, I do not have photo shop. This was how the pic was captured. Maybe there is an explanation for the circle but for now I just do not know.

Ok,

So working at a newspaper we have graphic artists on staff and I had them blow the photo up. Unfortuneately the dpi on this is very low, and the file would be huge to post. Anyway, what it seems to show is that the "orb" is in front of the right shoulder, and not behind it. Meaning it cannot be a dust partical or drop of water on the lens.

I opened it up in photoshop and blew it up just a little (unfortunately,have to agree with Redd here, poor quality). However, it does look like a water droplet on the lens. The blow up is pretty yucky, but I can see a bit of a color differential on his shirt, which would indicate that it is indeed water on the lens. If you look real close at his right shoulder, it appears to be *blownout*(much lighter than his other side nor the bottom of his shirt).
